First thing to do is simply wet your hair and wear the hat. When your hair gets dry, wet it again, and wear the hat. Do that all day, and it should shrink a little. If that's not enough... the place I bought it from said to wet the inside of the sweatband and leave it in a hot car for 4 hours...
I ordered a Lawson for Christmas. Got it in the "Loden" which is the chocolate brown color (not green as one might expect). Ordered the 58, since I wear a size right between 57 and 58, and did some shrinking techniques on it, and though it felt two sizes too big when I got it, it has shrunk down...
An older fella at church, who knows I like hats, gave me 2 hats today. One cheaper straw hat. And one nice Resistol. Black, with a thin ribbon, and 3" brim. It had a rectangular telescope bash, and heavily western-curved brim, so I steamed it up and reshaped it more to my liking, with a diamond...
Nice looking hats! My ribbon treatment is certainly not as fancy as those. No bow at all. But yeah, the contrasting colors look pretty good. I also have some stretch grosgrain in brown and in cream. The cream would not look good on this hat, but I may try it with the brown. The stretch grosgrain...
Where can I get a thin sage gray hat ribbon/band/trim? I like the one on my tan hat... it's a hollow 1/4" trim with a center stitch that makes it look like 2 1/8" ribbons side by side. I haven't been able to find anything like it so far in my searches...
I bought another vintage Shudde, this time a sage gray. Where can I get a thin sage gray hat ribbon/band/trim? I like the one on my tan hat... it's a hollow 1/4" trim with a center stitch that makes it look like 2 1/8" ribbons side by side. I haven't been able to find anything like it so far...
I've been wondering the same about how to store my hats. I have 8 or 9, and they do take up a bit of space. I wonder if there's some kind of storage container with drawers that would hold them...
Whoa! You're right. It says "polypropylene". I never would have even thunk to check on that! And yes, "thunk" is the past tense of think, in case you didn't know : )
That is weird for it to be a plastic hat. I don't think I would like that. Though I suppose it wouldn't stain. But I didn't...
I live in North Carolina, and there are no Akubra dealers near me. Who is the best online USA dealer to work with? Good prices, good service, etc...
There's a list of USA dealers here:

Who can you recommend?
I haven't had any real distortion happen yet when stretching... except for one thing: if you plan to stretch a hat with a tapered crown: it will increase the taper, and make the hat look a little cone like. I stretched a 7 up to my 7 3/16 or 57.5 Didn't work out. I like a very slight taper...
Alright, so I wear a 57.5. The only 58 or 7 1/4 I've worn that fit is my Borsalino. 7 1/8 is just a little snug.
So what I've recently done is buy a Hatjack, and used it to stretch smaller hats out a bit. Seems to work okay.
But I know some people go the opposite route, and prefer to...
