Bump, with a 1950's-60's era Bulldogger by The Moore Hat Company of Lawton, Okla. This was a style that was widely copied, but was reportedly originated in this country by TMC, which was issued a patent.

More Bulldogger & Moore Hat Co. history. No apparent relation to the Major, and I've got no end date yet.

Edit - Received the hat, it is a "Bulldogger" too, and fits, so was poorly listed as a 6 7/8. Marked "Genuine Panama"...

It probably depends on the thickness & pouncing of the body, and what you mean by "sturdy." I have several vintage Stetson nutria hats, a vintage South American "Nutria" brand nutria fur cowboy hat, and a nutria _blend_ body that I purchased from Winchester. The vintage Stetson nutria are very...

"Belgian belly" follow-up. I found this article while researching coypu (nutria) fur. It notes that along with Australia, Belgium was a major exporter of rabbit furs for hats.
