Ask a question, get an answer

I expect you are right about brown, but Flagships are hard to find in any color, let alone at a reasonable price. My Gold Medal (Royal Stetson) has no Flagship designation, but is a great hat, I imagine a Flagship model Gold Medal was very nice hat indeed. Wonder if it was an FL'er who...

    Custom Hat Liners?

One is somewhat limited by the fabric choices. All of the pinup fabrics that I have seen for sale are "busy," probably because blanks would look odd in a tropics shirt, which is what they are usually used for. I think the Black Sheep option is a little less so - don't know where their fabric...

I noted that also. My Lundstrom Stetson Gold Medal hat (not a Flagship, although I do own one) is also a 1950's hat, but if I didn't know better, I would have thought 1940's at least. The felt is very nice, and it is a winter weight. I'm going to see if the one you were watching sold ;-)...

What is a "grail" jacket worth?

Well, mine was $200 when I bought it about 13 years ago, and $65 on eBay when I bought the replacement last week. It's nothing fancy, mind you - I just like it. It's a dark brown Eddie Bauer circa 2000 or so, in a Levi Jacket cut with side pockets, leather cuffs and waistband. Relatively...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Here's one that I will probably convert or at least re-block unless it stretches easily, but couldn't pass up. A $29 BIN Bailey Pure Beaver in a very small size, with free shipping. http://bit.ly/1goYzTh "Faint hat never won fair lady."

Unusually designed late '40s Mallory Fedora

If that was done, and I'm not saying it was, whoever did it was very talented. Maybe somewhere like Pantke-Harpke, which advertised and was known for renovating older hats to newer styles. I once traded this particular seller a gorgeous 1930's Whippet that had been cut down there in 1960, a...

Don't know, I never got a response when I asked this question a couple of years ago, but I've got one from Lundstrom Hats in SF that is amazing. If you're looking at the one I think you are (also a Lundstrom), it looks very similar to mine, but mine is navy blue. "Faint hat never won fair lady."

New "How to make a bow" TUTORIAL by FORTINO37

Take one apart. You will see that the bottom on one side is tacked down first, then the other, and then the top ends are pulled tight against the crown before being tacked down. This prevents a gap at the top end where the hat tapers. You will also note that a small fold is often put in the...

+1 If you are looking for something other than blue: i.e. black, brown, khaki green, silver; I have some 1951 grosgrain I bought from a hatter's son, in a few different choices of widths . PM preferred, but don't know if you can do that. "Faint hat never won fair lady."

Greyryder, PM not allowed. I suggest you search the auction sites. I saw navy blue grosgrain ribbon at one recently, sold by the yard. "Faint hat never won fair lady."

    Western, anyone?

That's a nice one Terry, and it sounds like you got a great deal. You might have a hard time deciding whether to convert that one, huh? "Faint hat never won fair lady."

Ok, finally got a brim cutter a few mins ago. Sorry fellas, if we were competing, but if it helps, I did it with my own fingers, not a bidding robot. Too bad it wasn't scribed JBS. "Faint hat never won fair lady."

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

+1 x4-5, but I have no idea if the quantity of nutria fur in my hats. Let me just say they are all sublime. Count me as a fan of the water rat hat. "Faint hat never won fair lady."

    1940's Homburg - G. Moltene

She's got it marked at $85 but would probably take less. I've handled the hat and would buy it myself if I had the funds at the moment. Please PM if you want her contact info. It really is a beauty, and you should see the trench coat!!! "Faint hat never won fair lady."
