Maybe if the logo used the lightest blue thread on the tie instead of white?
Or maybe silver/grey? The white just seems like a little to much contrast.
Another difference between my experience and others is that our whole class was made up of cadets, probably a more serious bunch in general (and not any better than our enlisted counterparts by any means).:)

In that essay he talks about what to do with a shirt when not wearing a tie because it looks unfinished, that's why I like the loop collar shirt since they are designed to look good without a tie. Just another option.
