My recent Raiders jacket (made October last year) is seriously well made, in fact I was a little shocked at how good it was compared to my first jacket from them (from 2 or 3 years back), not that the first one was bad, but this new one is in a different league, exceedingly well made, stitching...
Sad, sounds as if they have gone belly up then. I remember Brettafett posting a very good review of his one and it really looked the bee's knees.
Always sad when a maker disappears, well a good maker that is.
Really looking forward to seeing that BN and I hope they do a first rate job. My Raiders was my second Wested jacket and whilst my first from them is a nice jacket, this recent one from them is a seriously bloody good jacket. Only thing I would change - and will do down the line - was the...
Dead right mate. Remember these were initially flying coats and made to be worn over a shirt and tunic or thick jumper. They're primary purpose was to protect from wind, weather and the elements in an open cockpit.
Great to hear that you might have a sale in the bag Monitor, 250 quid for this...
Lovely jackets one and all.
Me today, my Aero FQHH Barnstormer, sorry no pics but got a "fin jakke" (nice jacket) comment from a random stranger which put a smile on the old dial.
I think Wested might have upped their game recently. I bought a custom Raiders jacket last October from them and I was stunned at both how nicely it was made but also the leather (soft seal brown cowhide) which was seriously nice.
That's sad if he has indeed packed it in. From what I saw here he seemed like a nice fella to deal with and his jackets looked great, and were a nice alternative for those after a civvy style A-2 from the 40s and 50s.
Hopefully it's just a case of him rejigging his website, because it's always...
The Dornier Wal in all her many guises was a fantastic aircraft and operated in all the four corners of the globe, including Amundsen's attempt to reach the North Pole. Very graceful aircraft.
Whoops forgot to comment on this...
All Barnstormers are sized about one to two sizes larger than the tagged size.
Also, apologies to Monitor for blithering a lot in your sale thread but thought this might be useful info for a potential buyer.
Nick you've got a few flight jackets and waist length jackets haven't you? So the suggestions of a car coat or longer length jacket are good ones. They're also very practical and easy to wear jackets.
Lots of beautiful choices from multiple manufacturers as well. Seeing as you're in California...
Beautiful Barnstormer and an absolute bargain at that price, somebody's in for a great coat at an incredibly good price.
I have one and love it (recently I got a bit angsty about mine being a touch small in the shoulders but that had more to do with me being a plonker by trying to wear it over...
Roo is a fantastic hide, wears really well, strong stuff too. Mate back in Oz has a 20-something year old roo jacket which looks bloody superb.
Wear the absolute hell out of it, it'll look all the better for it.
Hi Otter,
I'll see what I can do, I've currently only got some shitty photos on my mobile of the cockpit (basically finished). She's nearly ready for paint, just waiting for the wings to come back from Hungary and to finish a couple of other projects here which have been prioritised.
I...
Hi Jayessgee,
Thanks for the book recommendations and I agree "Wings" is a great series, one which gets forgotten about.
As you've seen there's one or two of us round these parts who are interested in the first air war so welcome!
Tim
Hi DNO, you reminded me of G-M's book, been meaning to pick that up for awhile now and especially seeing as Grub Street republished it a couple of years back - must trundle off to Amazon and order it!
Speaking of books, I literally got this in the post today:
I think I've mentioned Alex...
Haven't posted here in this thread in donkeys but thought that some members might enjoy this link, a rather good doco about McCudden and Mannock:
Hope members enjoy it as much as I did.
