    Photos of hatters tools

I was thinking about using some left over from a counter to make a spinner base.

Boiled linseed oil should not transfer once it soaks into the wood and hardens. Unboiled might, but not boiled. I like this thread - thanks for the dimensions Hatter4, and for sharing your solution Mr. Astor.

    The Conversion Corral

Here's a tip. I always cut the original data parts from the old sweat, trim them a bit and spray the backs with glue, then paste them on the back side of the new sweat - on the side where they won't bother me. That way I've preserved the provenance and no one has to take my word that the...

    Wtb/wtt - resistol krushable 7 1/2 - 5/8's

They are hard to find. I looked for a long time before finding one at a decent price. Great hat though. Lightweight and with a very good hand. Mine's too small for you ;-)

I don't know this pattern, but a rare EAPG shot in carnival glass.

Another rare one - in the Cape Cod pattern.

    Vintage Shot Glasses

This little fella is quite rare. It is a Deming Jarvis shot glass circa 1840, authenticated by the curator of the Sandwich Glass Museum.

Thanks. It may be that it needs to be a treadle to have the necessary power. I'll keep you posted.

    The Conversion Corral

I like that conversion Bond. I've not turned one inside out yet, but keep threatening. I did once re-block a Ritch Rand OR clone with a hole in the crown that I picked up for $25 and put a grommet in the hole and another on the other side (actually, I put a total three on each side) as...

    The Conversion Corral

For flat brims, probably something like Hatter4's finishing bench: http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showpost.php?p=1750937

Ask a question, get an answer

It doesn't sound as if the hat is truly conforming to your head shape in your steaming process. Probably it is not getting soft enough. My method of conforming a hat is to spray the hat thoroughly with water from a spray bottle, but not directly on the leather sweatband or liner. (Remove the...

    The Conversion Corral

I believe you need a flange, or at least an iron (careful) to get your brims just right. We have the same issue with felts, and those are the generally prescribed methods. The old hat books I've read specifically discuss ironing of straws.

    Vintage Shot Glasses

I'm having too much fun - last one - really. Ever wonder why they call the "depression tall" shot glasses "cheaters?" They are all the same size, but look at the difference in capacity, from left to right. This one though, is the cheater beater, it's actually much larger ;-)

I had to show one more grouping - these are all gold rush era shot glasses.

    Vintage Shot Glasses

This is the last for the day, and so unique I have never seen another. There is a small glass ball in the bubble that rolls around and tinkles like a bell when you tip it. Very cool. This heavy bottom is in the style if a firing glass, but I have no real idea as to the age or maker of this...
