Definitely modern. It has a nice hefty feel to it. Beyond saying 100% silk, the label isn't of much help. I suspect it's Chinese. I wore it while out and about today and found it quite comfortable. I am really lusting after those beautiful vintage scarves that you keep posting Two Types but...
Nice scarf...like the hat, too, Spitfire.
Scarves are starting to dry up at local thrift stores, thanks to the gradual warming of spring, but I found this pale green silk number today:
I originally posted this on another thread but until it warms up around here it's the only shot I've got! Not a fedora, but a homburg, with a suitably subdued Hawaiian!
Horse Soldiers! Great film...my favourite Civil War film. Strother Martin was such a deliciously greasy character in that one...a small part but a good one.
More thrift store luck. Today I found a beautiful 7 ¼ long oval grey fedora made for Eaton’s department store. It’s flawless and very comfortable. The fur felt is wonderfully soft and quite thick. No stains, no mothing…nothing! (Won’t mention the embarrassing low price.) 2 1/4" brim...just...
Ate at the inlaws yesterday so today I was desperate for food with some flavour so I made a nice Leek and Potato soup, followed by hot Thai-style shrimp with a mushroom risotto. Gotta flush the memory of yesterday's 'feast' from my mind.
Welcome to the lounge ONP...always nice to see another Canuck on here. Where are you in Ontario?
Thrift stores have been mentioned as a source for hats. Absolutely true but don't pass up contents sales and church rummage sales. Last fall I found a nice vintage Stetson and a Borsalino at...
I spent 35 years teaching in an all-boys publicly-funded high school and never, ever raised a hand to a student. In the old days, I even had parents urging me to use force on their sons if they got out of line. I never did. In addition, I've raised a son and never felt the need to spank him...
Gems indeed V.C.! You're right about Kim Phuc...she became a Canadian citizen in 1998 and apparently lives in Ajax, just outside Toronto.
There's something about the fact that the author actually handled that particular book that makes signed books so special. It separates the book from the...
Thanks Heather...quite the lucky find. I love signed books and in the last year I've found over 50 of them in local thrift stores, including a lovely signed copy of Michael Palin's Hemingway Adventure. Most of them are works of Canadian fiction. This one, The Girl in the Picture, has got to...
Half price day at Goodwill hereabouts. Picked this up:
Interesting book about one of the most iconic images from the Vietnam War. Opened it up and found it was signed not only by the author but by 'the girl in the picture' as well, Kim Phuc.
It never fails to amaze me...the things you...
Titanic: The Aftermath. Two hour documentary on the recovery of bodies from the sinking. I thought I was about Titaniced out but this was interesting, despite the foolish producers dressing up the actors portraying the Mackay-Bennett crew members in WW2 vintage U.S. Navy uniforms. Why can't...
