The jacket itself has completely broken in - it's probably the most beautiful thing I own and will soon get a replacement zipper so I can continue wearing it for another ten years. It's just much heftier than my other jackets and I'm generally happier with the weight of 'mid' leathers. Aero's...
Yes, they are good hides. I find that the FQHH is a bit too much- it's great stuff but unwieldy (even the HWMN after ten years is unwieldy. It's totally broken in, looks great and I'd not sell it, but I prefer the mid-weight utility).
The battered hides I think are really great - I've had both the battered tan and the battered seal (the seal wins for me) - wear shows up even more quickly and the mid-weights are ideal. I don't think that under fairly normal usage mid-weight would prove less durable than FQHH. Given time...
That's subjective. It all depends on what you mean by patina, too. Aero's standard FQ horsehide will do this after heavy use (this is probably at about 8 years):
Goat, though - at least Aero's seal goat - seems to dull a little and crease, but mine doesn't really change much. It looked...
That's been my experience. Aero's goat creases, goes extra pebbled in some areas and slightly flattens out under the elbows. Patina I've seen none of.
This would be a fantastic choice if you want a jacket that will stay newish-looking for a very long time. It doesn't even really dull, either.
My best recent acquisition has been an Aero Maxwell in tumbled cordovan - the Maxwell is an excellent pattern: not too long, half belt and fairly close-fitting. I am also really impressed by the battered seal HH, which I have a CR in. It shows wear really quickly and the shade 'tigers' - the...
Useful to know- I like the idea of a shawl collar on a longer jacket, similar to SB's Statesman (but maybe not quite as long). I'm weighing options and will hopefully dismiss the whole notion in a couple of days. :)
I like the LW peacoat, but I am not a fan of any of the other styles - I like the peacoat in the full knowledge that it wouldn't suit me. I like the website because it's unintentionally funny and has a kind of floating rage- like Machine Gun Joe in 'Death Race'.
The craftsmanship on the...
Divorce rates are up anyway - don't add fuel/mink oil to the fire.
I don't have any definite solutions, but I can tell you what not to open with:
a) 'Every year that we were married I bought one of these jackets to reward myself for... no, hang on...'
b) 'Let's turn this round and talk about...
