I get compliments on the Highwayman and the Maxwell infrequently, and a friend at the pub once really praised the Aero Cafe Racer I have, but most people who know me know that I'm generally to be found in a leather jacket and a pair of Carhartts and therefore aren't surprised if they see me...
I found that exercise helps a lot with almost any kind of irrational behaviour that's bad for you. In my case, most of my bad habits make it harder to exercise- if I can not smoke my few cigs a day for a day or two, I'll row and then the urge goes away. Jackets look better on you when you're...
I asked for the lightest black FQHH Aero had for the Stockman- it's still heavy, but it would have been unwieldy had it been the same weight of leather used for my Highwayman. The black FQHH seems to wear down to brown quite quickly at the edges and seams (within the first six months or so) and...
Aero's standard black FQHH also wears through to brown. This is a Stockman that has been exposed to quite heavy rain and cold- I don't think it's been unduly banged about:
That Mariner's an excellent modification to the original. If I can get two more jackets sold, I just might be tempted by a jacket in battered tan with curved pocket flaps, but I'm definitely going to shift others beforehand.
The Mariner looked like this:
And the Hercules overall looks like this:
The Mariner doesn't usually have those pocket flaps (or cuffs); I was wondering if the more curved pocket flaps were requested by any folks on here as, with the exception of the Mariner in the photo above, I've never...
What jackets do people think these would look good on? I really like the design and was wondering whether these curved pocket flaps would suit other zip front (or even button front) designs. I know someone had them on a russet Mariner at some point- something with these pockets and a Dustbowl...
Ha! Snap cuffs I don't like undone, either. There's definitely a complex at work with buttons. Not buckles, not snaps, not double cuffs. But button cuffs on leather jackets. Always and only.
Just don't try to undo anyone else's.
I'm also in favour of leaving button cuffs open - I think that they've only ever been buttoned about ten times on my Highwayman in the decade I've owned it. The same is true on the goat 50s HB and the Maxwell (usually- for some reason I occasionally button the cuffs on longer jackets, but only...
It would still be interesting to see exactly how weakened it was- if, despite all the damage it was still structurally fairly strong, it would be reassuring in terms of how much (unwittingly severe) a hammering these jackets can actually take in the absence of any attempt at care at all.
If it's your favourite jacket, you keep it. That's regardless of whether other people think it could do with a size up or down, or an inch on the sleeves or off them, or if you've been eating nothing but pizza for three months or if it was asparagus.
Keep it. I have a Highwayman that is...
I am pleased that I haven't bought anything that I need to break in in a while- I found that I'm not amused by the process as much as I was a few years ago. Pleasingly, new jackets are just 'other' jackets that I don't need and hopefully that sentiment will continue- it's taken a few months to...
Bad storage will do significant damage- in combination with no maintenance and extremes of temperature, you could do that to most leathers inside a year or two. Just keep it damp, chuck it in a warm corner on the floor and sweat into it after you've sun dried it and do that all the time. If...
I reckon a few things that you really love and the rest of your clothing 'working/functional/socialising' is fine - you have to have things that you enjoy, after all. Money wasted isn't catastrophic if it teaches you to conserve it (or to spend it on things you really enjoy), and there's no...
Minutiae, before you get those fingers in the trap, are almost non-existent, and then they are a universe. I'm fortunate: I won't spend more than Aero's prices (or, weirdly, less) and, although I really want a Himel Canuck and can afford one, I'm not paying those prices; even if the jacket is...
Leather jackets are different- the best ones are bashed up and worn in- suits and shirts not working in quite the same way. At the very best place I worked, everyone was such an outlier that the management could barely enforce any kind of dress code - those were my Carhartt and Highwayman days...
Several years ago a guy I was working with told me something that he remembered his Dad telling him: 'Keep your best clothes for you, not work.' I reckon this is good advice- 95% of your working days you can wear a crappier suit to, or one of five average shirts. Your good stuff is for you...
