    Western, anyone?

Well, sometimes the feather band comes off cleanly. Just pray it's not glued down. The resizing (up) isn't too difficult, and sweatband is also a relatively simple fix. PM me if you want. I'm catching up fast on my backlog, and you won't find a better price system than my word of mouth campaign.

    Western, anyone?

Thx! I hate to waste anything. Another option is saving it to match with the brim from a bad crowned western, for a dualist.

    Photos of hatters tools

Dunno. I saw this and took it to be a hat brush, either ebony or faux. Is it soft bristled?

    Western, anyone?

You could telescope it for a blues hat.

Scotch Guard? Scout Felt Hat Protector?

I looked into this, and you are right about alcohol. Thanks for the tip. This brings me to a self-effacing cautionary tale regarding the use of alcohol on finished hats: I recently used alcohol to try to soften the shellac in the brim of a rare & wonderful hat I was renovating for a fellow...

Scotch Guard? Scout Felt Hat Protector?

I condition first with Lexol, before getting sweats wet. I also try to wet them indirectly - by spraying the felt & letting it gradually wet the sweat. When I was new to this, I got a vintage hat very wet all at once, and the sweat, which had looked ok, curled into a slinky. Even with...

Scotch Guard? Scout Felt Hat Protector?

I treat my felt hats like dogs. A walk in a light rain or mist is nice, and I actually use the opportunity to tune up the hat. A torrential downpour requires a different hat.

    The Conversion Corral

Teasers of Justin's hat. The bow is original, but the ribbon has a tear and needs replaced. I need a yard of 2 1/4 inch true black vintage ribbon. Please PM if you have some. I have several near-black, grey & khaki options in this width, but no true black, and have struck out with the usual...

    The Conversion Corral

Joao, I haven't done anything at all with the brim. I think it's ok, but can re-flange, etc. if you want. I think it looks pretty good as is.

    The Conversion Corral

Thanks fellas! Going to try to finish that Knapp-Felt tonight. Justin has been extremely patient. I've re-blocked it and re-flanged it with no changes to the original shape or brim width. Going to put the original "bow" on if I can match the ribbon and clone it if not. Will post photos.

    Western, anyone?

Well, I am sure I could use it, but want his hat to be unique. I'm ok with another existing in Portugal. It was a length of pre-stamped belting leather I bought online. I had to split it because it was pretty thick. The shell casing "rivet" is actually a heavy duty western snap. I had to...

Elephant leather sounds cool - might be illegal ;-). Maybe on a grey hat?

Gentlemen, show us what you've made!

On topic, but atypical here, a drum I made for my sister in law. The image design is an absolute original, and I am letting you know it is copyrighted, so don't rip me off ;-). I may want to make T-shirts, etc., with this design.

Thanks, all. And thanks to everyone for their patience. This used to be a hobby but is fast becoming a calling. Managing it and my other commitments has made me The Midnight Hatter ;-) Yes, indeed first work to go "across the pond." I'm pleased it'll be going to Portugal, as my grandfather...
