I'm gotten Ma'am a few times. I was called "Miss" by the lady who sold me tickets at Disneyland last month and was taken aback for a second. Ha. I don't know why, but I always think of it as a title for younger girls and young women, even though it's not. Too many historic dramas for me, I...
Ooh. I like that one. There's something about that just slightly disheveled look in 30s clothes that's really attractive. Not that they're sloppy or too neatly dressed- but like someone you could actually talk and joke with. My husband does this look pretty well when he wears suits :)
Note to...
Yeah, that's the thing! The rates are SO close now. It really sucks. For some things it's actually cheaper to ship UPS!
I sold a purse this week and underestimated the weight. When I looked at shipping it parcel post it was only about 40 cents in difference to priority so I just ate the...
Ooh! fun!
It kind of reminds me of the crazy fun beach pajamas of satin that Betty Grable wears in The Gay Divorcee- probably the mad shoulder treatment. These are padded with HUGE piping strips.
Let's Kn-ock Kn-ees.
Lady Day, that is exactly the image I was thinking of.
I admit, I don't like this part of what was quoted:
“Mickey is never going to be evil or go around killing people,” Mr. Spector said. But Mickey won’t be bland anymore, either. “I wanted him to be able to be naughty — when you’re playing as...
Ok, I thought of something just CREEPY. There was a fashion, I forget when, of fastening a live beetle to your blazer with a chain, so it would kind of crawl all around your jacket but be attached. I think they embellished them somehow too. That counts as ugly and gross.
Oh yeah- and Amy Jeanne, in my sewing lineup in the past I had bell bottom pants with the three stooges faces all over them and a hawaiian sarong dress with pinup girls all over it, so you're not alone in sewing madness ;)
I love what you've done!
More things that give me joy:
A star spangled beach pajama set:
PLAID in 1910's clothing:
Late teens to early 20s suits with flared coats and high neck collars:
MAD 1910s hats:
OH, me too!! Fabulous!
Say, what's the top image from? I had a friend asking me last week if I knew of a movie that had a chorus girl in a clear plastic tea pot. This must have been the one!
Do you only buy it if it makes your heart sing?
- Yes, but sometimes it requires trying it on because some vintage stuff looks "eh" on the hanger, but on the body it looks great! And sometimes if it's a basic I know I need to fill out my wardrobe, regardless of if it makes me heart sing- if...
Aw... Amy Jeanne, I'm bummed! I thought you might have some awesome pics to share from your mad stash of movie pics!
I'm kind of right there with you. I love everything obnoxious. And I don't care if you guys make repros in sculls and tattoo fabrics, or whatever- they're AWESOME- and half of...
YES! Everything from The Women!!
I especially love that bathing costume with the GIANT hand brooch holding a rose, and the rose and hand lining. lol
I woke up this morning thinking of more.
I LOVE Souvenier accessories. Nothing like a giant scarf with a state on it- charm bracelets from odd...
A companion thread to the ugliest!
I'd love to see silly, strange, or just OBNOXIOUS things you think are great from the 1910's through the 1950s.
I'll start off with two of my favorites- both from the late 30s.
Coats with fur sleeves
Tapered crown hats:
I actually like the blue dress a lot. :o
Of course I can't find a picture of the dress I'm thinking of, but there's this awful dress Ginger Rogers wears in Roberta with a ridiculous hat, HUGE ruffled collar and hem, and polka dots. Maybe someone knows the dress I'm thinking of and has a...
