I can't see mine either. Must be a glitch in the system. Funny you mentioned it, I just went to my blog and noticed the same thing lol
LD, I don't think I'm that interesting either, but sewing and patterns are fun and lots of folks like it! I know I find other sewing blogs really...
I'm pretty sure the hip measurement is actually the finished hip measurement. I'd order a size bigger if your hip is the same as the size chart.
I'll post a picture of myself in the pants later... we're having quite rainy weather so it's a dark day, and I have allergies that make me look...
I admit I totally cheat a lot of the time and put in invisible zippers. If you can't see it it's not there. lol The last few ones I have put in old metal zippers, though.
I just got my Freddies of Pinewood order and I love them! I got the overalls and the black utility and they fit great though I do have to move the buttons on the overalls as they're for someone longer waisted than me. They do have the lower rise like my vintage pairs do, but not as low as 30s...
Cici, are you short waisted? That could be why they sit there. It's ok... the vintage pairs I have sit like that on me and I'm short waisted even though I'm taller.
palespider, for beginner sewers it's probably better to only mess with pattern grading that's two inches smaller, unless you're more technically minded. I know I wasn't when I started sewing! If you're that close you can usually just add a bit at the sideseams but when you start getting two or...
I also love turn of the century. I don't know anyone that really reproduces truly authentic period pieces (and those that will do custom charge $$$$) but Revamp has some cute 1910s pieces that are much less than having something copied or made...
Hiya! I don't have any visuals at the moment, but I can tell you that coats are one of the most misidentified vintage items on the market! People always think 60s coats are 50s, 50s are 40s, and 40s are 30s! Don't always take a sellers word that a coat is the date they claim. Some folks...
Neat! Can't wait to see it :)
My husband, when I met him, said "I don't like 50s clothes". Well, when I started pointing out things that were similar to the 30s and he started misidentifying things as 30s that were actually from the 50s, he started to change his tune a bit. ;) People just...
Folks still use pinking shears but I think by the early 60s most clothing sold in stores was serged. I could be wrong on that, though- I guess it depends on each company and their preference [huh]
This made me think of when I started getting into vintage. I wanted to do it as authentically as I could back then, without even knowing there was a whole subculture devoted to it already. The only place I could find stocking with seams (even if not ff- I didn't know the difference back then)...
A lot of 1930s detailing came back into vogue in the late 40s and 1950s. Could be that she was using the bodice of the piece with a modern skirt? I find it somewhat unlikely that it was a costume as most all costume photos of the period show things with a definite 50s flair to them, or clothes...
I can honestly say I have no clue. [huh] I guess it probably depended on the type of work and how close they were to home. I know when I helped out in a factory a bit I'd be head to toe covered in black grease, so I probably wouldn't have wanted to go on a bus like that lol
I've got a couple (one black, one white) of nearly exactly the same style Lizzie mentioned. They're pretty comfy as far as those things go and definitely keep stockings up :)
