    The ones that got away

 Why? It is pretty, but not even a complicated pattern from the look of it?

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

Gunter Sachs (famous photographer, artist, and ex-husband of Brigitte Bardot) shot himself, apparently due to fear of mental illness. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/switzerland/8501271/Gunter-Sachs-former-husband-of-Brigitte-Bardot-shoots-himself-in-Swiss-chalet.html

    Interesting article on disposable fashion

True, but even then I think I' rather get them from charity shops or auction sites, especially because I read that used children's clothing is healthier because it's been washed so often that all the dyes and pesticides aren't as harmful anymore (not sure how true that is). I can't even bear to...

    Interesting article on disposable fashion

^^I know, that second quote was unbelievable! Although I have to say that 28kg doesn't even sound all that much, especially when I think of how many really heavy clothing bags I have taken to charity shops lately (and walking there you realise how heavy stuff actually is). If that includes coats...

    Show us your vintage patterns!

Thanks DPD and Kamikat! I've been bidding on that sailor pattern at least 3 times and always got outbid, so I was really surprised I was the only bidder this time. However, the seller isn't sure it is complete, so we'll see. Fingers crossed! Kate, that is lovely, and may I say brave for a...

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

I'm not sure that starting with t-shirts is going to be easiest for a beginner, as t-shirts are normally jersey and stretch while you stitch, so you need special jersey needles and some machines have an extra foot to use as well. Jersey can make you pull your hair out if you haven't done it...

Ooooh, I also have a Cath Kidston dress I adore. Your's is fabulous! I keep going in and wanting to buy, but most of their stuff is dry-clean only rayon, which really annoys me so I never go for it. I wish they'd just use more user-friendly fabrics.

    Show us your vintage patterns!

I got a whole bunch of patterns recently, some I have wanted for ages and finally found, like this one: I'm really giddy about this, as I already have the fabric and am going to recreate a dress I loved and lost out on: This one I searched for after seeing Lauren's beautiful version on...

    Help me accessorize this Outfit!

I think matchy-matchy is so vintage, so I wouldn't worry about that. I think some contrast might be good, and I'd do nude stockings in any case with either white belt and shoes, or black belt and shoes. Maybe even lemon, bit I realise most people probably don't have lemon shoes :)

Thank you RodeoRose! Your find is so exciting, make sure to post pictures once it all arrives ( well, since I read your blog I won't miss it either way) :D I'm always too scared to buy lots, but bet that's how one finds the treasures. Miss G, that dress is lovely and so you!

    Making a Circle Skirt

Thanks Kate, and that pattern is actually just a huge square piece of fabric with some box pleats folded in. I agree with Lady Day, I think circle skirts are difficult from just looking at the instructions and tutorials online, and I have shied away from making one so far. I'd definitely...

Thanks ladies! I haven't had the courage to wear the earrings yet, as they are enormous, but good to know that they could be 50's.

Ironing Woes...Love the vintage Hate the ironing

^ Ha ha, my grandmother had one and it was massive. It took up the entire kitchen and she ironed everything on that thing, including underwear (you know, in case one of us got hit by a car and had to go to hospital and they happened to see your unironed underpants!). Our house is iron central...

I love shrugs and cardis with dresses, good buy Miss G! And FYI Miss S, I have a black angora shrug for evening wear from Monsoon ages ago, but those things are so warm to the point of being uncomfortable. I can only really wear mine in the winter, and even then not for too long, and I am...

    Should I or Shouldn't I?

Go for it, and try to reserve it now. I was hesitating about a dress from that shop and lost it, so it's now my screensaver :D I bought material and a pattern to copy mine, but this one would be harder to make because of the detail. Also, actual vintage has a different feel to it than...

    Show us your Horrockses dresses!

I think there is a much better one on there right now, with a high-ish starting price but classic Horrockses. I was thinking of you when it popped up in my email this morning. Might be a tad big though. And I often had that realisation that I wondered if I'd pay that much if it was a different...
