It's ironic that JFK is the man popularly blamed for killing fedoras off and yet he was the probably the last President wear or carry one while in office.
Lyndon wore his cowboy hats and Stetsons, and among a large subset of America (especially in the South), to this day they are still rather...
Perhaps it was more than the hat industry?
Maybe he liked wearing/carrying one once in a while?
I mean I doubt he'd wear one to visit Jackie in the hospital simply because some hat industry guys asked him to.
Or when he was getting dressed on his way to announce running for President--He wasn't...
The dates on those photos are:
JFK wearing fedora as he puts on suit jacket (January or February 1960. He was on his way to officially announce he was running for President).
JFK walking in the street en route to hospital to meet Jackie (December 2nd, 1960)
JFK wearing Fedora, opening day...
A question: Do you guys think JFK only wore a hat in these pictures (even the one en route to the hospital to meet Jackie who was in labor) only due to the requests of his hat industry friends, or did he genuinely like wearing a hat (on a rare occaison)?
The picture is April 22nd 1945, and the handsome servicemen you speak of is my maternal grandfather. He's standing next to his dad--the one with the hat.
It was his first Sunday home from the hospital. He had been in the hospital since January 1945, having gotten shot in the leg during the...
I think within the next decade or so they're going to become more and more common.
I know a lot of men--from my age (20) to their 30s who at the very least have a fedora, non-ironically, and some who even wear them at least sometimes.
For whatever reason, my generation has begun to embrace fedoras.
Plus the generational difference with JFK in his thin cut, dark blue suit; Flashy new, whereas you have Ike in his wider cut grey suit. Truly a photo which captures two generations.
I know this is kinda hard since he's only holding it and not wearing it, but what kind of hat does my great grandpa have in this photo?:
Background: The photo was taken April 22nd 1945. He was an upper middle class former Immigrant from Italy (but had immigrated around the turn of the...
My uncle has a collection of my grandfather's belongings. My grandfather fought in WWII and served from '39-46. Among his stuff was a book titled, "Why America Fights"--A medium sized volume. It seemed to be about WWII and maybe was a propaganda work of sorts. I didn't get a chance to look...
Question:
I was looking at old family pictures which date from the mid-late 50s (sometime between 1956 and 1958) and I noticed on my grandparent's bookshelf, amongst other books, were two self help books. One was titled "The New Way to Relax", the other, "How Am I Doing?"
I was curious--Were...
I have a pretty bad allergy to dust mites, which tend to inhabit, well dusty places such as pillowcases, feathers, etc., and I was curious if a felt (beaver or rabbit) fedora collects dust or dust mites easily?
Question...
I'd like to get an Indiana Jones looking fedora (with a wide, brim). Now Harrison Ford's exact measurements in Indy were:
Size: 7 ¼
Crown: 5 ½ (5.5) inches
Brim (front & back): 2 ¾
Brim (sides): 2 5/8
Ribbon: 1 ½ (1.5)
Now, my head size is somewhere between a 6 7/8 and a size...
