Yet he's saying it in a conversation talking about the Civil Rights bill. I don't think he was racist; You have to remember, he was born in 1908 in Texas. For a man of his time and where he came from, the N word was probably the most common word used to describe black people.
Ever since the 1960s or so our manner of clothing has become ever more informal. The Jeans & T-Shirt combination has practically become a standard uniform in American society. As late as the 1980s, wearing more formal or "preppy" clothes was still in vogue--A young man could still get away with...
He had a rifle bullet in his leg--He had been shot in the lower leg that January and this was his first day out of the hospital. He was in and out of the hospital for a year after this photo for surgeries and therapy. He had been in the Northern France campaign and fought in the Battle of the...
Yeah but to carry it around much of the time, and wear it on VERY casual and even intimate occasions (like going to visit Jackie at the hospital or at the ballpark)? He's photographed wearing a fedora in multiple instances over a year and 11 months...I doubt his friendship with Al Webb was THAT...
''Spring, 1957 - JFK’s gait evened out after he had a special lift crafted into left shoe by the cobblers at Church’s. His left leg was reportedly one-half inch shorter than his right (5)p.237''
FDR was Johnson's hero. He had a lot of flaws, made a lot of mistakes, but the man had a lot of heart. The mistakes he made--Vietnam--haunted him. He is as much a tragedy of the 1960s as everyone else of that period. Some older like JFK, RFK and MLK went by bullets; others like Jim Morrison...
facade--the very Golden Era many here pine for was one of the biggest eras of government in our modern history. FDR, Truman, the New Deal, Fair Deal, ring a bell? Somehow with all of that big government in the 1930s and 1940s, people acted orderly and dressed classy.
Actually, the jeans &...
He had suffered two heart attacks in the 1950s--Almost died from the second one. After that, he stopped smoking (mostly) even though he had enjoyed smoking greatly beforehand.
"Johnson's retirement of just over four years was not a happy one. He grew his hair long and is described by one...
Glasses
Hey--
Was wondering what style/type of glasses these are? This photo is of my great grandfather, taken in 1945. I ask cause I think his pair looks cool, especially compared to the very common square shape of today
Also, a second question: Does it look like my great grandpa had a...
Bump. This is the only thing stopping me from buying a fedora, as I have an allergy to dust mites. If someone could try to alleviate my fears about this, it'd be great.
I think stingy vs. wide brim depends a lot on your face shape/size. I've noticed people with thinner, more angular faces pull off broad brims better than stingies.
Whereas broader faced folk pull off stingies better.
I have to disagree....
I think stingy brims are just as Fedoras as big brimmed hats are.
Personally I find Fedoras and trilbys and stingy brims all varieties of the same hat.
By stingy brims I mean the sort of hat Sinatra wore, the same kind of hat JFK wore when he wore a hat on a rare occasion.
