Here are some photos of the sweatband. It is difficult to photograph close-ups but I think you can see the problem in this photo:
compared to a "normal" sweat:
In fact, the sweat is "top-stitched". Every european hat I've ever had, regardless of quality, has had the sweat sewn in like...
I have the Christies Adventurer in the "Burma" color. The felt is quite nice, smooth and flexible. The sweatband is good quality leather but is sewn in over an eighth of an inch above the brim break, which means that there is no "bell" shape to the sweat and the stitching rubs against the...
Stingy Dobbs, 1 5/8" underwelt
No model name or other info inside this one; it has a nice tall, boxy crown on it, which is what makes the stingies from the 60's different from their modern homologues, which tend to have far more taper.
Resistol kitten finish
Self conforming, 2 1/8" brim, custom edge. This is the first time I've worn this hat, though I've had it for quite a while. It has an incredibly soft sweat band.

I am thinking of ordering a new hat, but living here in France, I just don't have the luxury of walking into a hat store and looking over the merchandise.
Two models appeal to me. The first is the Stetson Nostalgia, the second is the Dobbs Jet. My question concerns the quality of the...
Thanks! I creased it as deeply as I could. Any more and I start to get a reverse taper that is almost comical. Same for the C-crown and diamond bashes. They all make the top of the crown significantly larger than the bottom; it develops a "light bulb" shape. I'm just having fun shaping it...
Dobbs
Brown Dobbs, overwelt. The welt on this hat has been glued rather than stitched. It has been sanded and squared off to give a really neat appearance. It was perhaps a compromise between a regular stitched welt and a more expensive cavanagh edge. I think this is my favorite edge...
1930's Knox
I like stingy-brims from the 1960's but I've long wanted a real 1930's hat. This decade represents the apex of men's fashion. Looking over the posts of my fellow lounge members fueled my desire. My 7 5/8 extra long oval head seemed to be an insurmountable obstacle in my quest...
I was excited to hear recently that there may be a new Green Hornet movie. Then I heard it was being made by a comedian which was disheartening to say the least.
The fashion sensibilities of the 1960's seem to be popular at the moment. You'd think the producers would want to do it as a...
The Green Hornet!
There were two movie (or rather T.V.) hats that inspired me as a lad. The first was the Green Hornet's. This was just about the spiffiest series in the history of the universe. It had everything:
The hero with a great hat...
Bianchi Continental Styling
I felt extra-jaunty today so I wore my tyrolean and my yellow socks. Anybody got any smart remarks about my yellow socks? I didn't think so!
