    Alec Baldwin: Good-bye, Public Life

A few weeks ago I was dining alfresco with friends at a cafe on one of our local promenades. Adjacent to us was a fountain where a man lay sleeping on the steps. At one point a young couple strolled by and stopped to stare at the man. They conferred for a moment and then a camera appeared from...

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

Maybe the writer meant that Maria was the last survivor of the family's ordeal during the war. The brother was born in the US after the war. Just a guess.

1930's Suit German (2x jackets, waistcoat, pants, shirt) + Ulster-Coat

I love the cloths used, especially on the overcoat. I think the orphan fits in quite well with its new family. And it's priced to move. BTW, what is the intended use for that extra pocket on the trousers?

Pocket squares are like bow ties in that the slight imperfections incurred when doing it yourself trumps the prepackaged look.

    French cuff question

I've only heard of the 'French Cuff' applied in two instances:1.) Shirt cuffs as we are discussing here. And 2.) A tailoring term (also called a faux cuff) for a technique used to create a cuff on trousers when there is limited material available.

Great Shoe Shine Stands across the nation

I stumbled upon an excellent shine at The Mark hotel in Manhattan. The stand is operated in partnership with the venerable shoemaker John Lobb. It appears that JL have partnered with a handful of other hotels as well. Highly recommended. http://www.johnlobb.com/us/hotels
