four buttons and a straight front is very unusual though for a sports jacket of that date.
maybe it's the slight 'uniform' look of the jacket but i keep imagining it with matching breeches.

Fastuni, that suit might be what put the image in my head. i'm not suggesting it is a uniform, but it might be a suit which was tailored for some sort of specific sporting / riding use.
