What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

1.) A new, really bad no-budget horror film called "paranormal phenomena" or something like that -- I even forgot the title, complete garbage 2.) Men Who Stare At Goats -- largely good

To tailor or not to tailor? When cost becomes the question

Now, a real solution. After sleeping on this last night, I came upon the true solution. See, unlike the rest of you, I actually know Guttersnipe personally, and I know he is a slender fellow. So exercise won't make the suit fit better. The answer (drumroll please): a fatsuit under the tuxedo...

To tailor or not to tailor? When cost becomes the question

I have always agreed with this, but I don't know very many other people who do. My wife, for example, HATES loose suit-jackets on me, and would rather see me in a t-shirt than in a vintage suit jacket if the suit-jacket is not snug.

To tailor or not to tailor? When cost becomes the question

44 is great! Easy to let down the sleeve-cuffs and leg-cuffs to make it a 44L. My actual size varies between 42L and 43L/44L. Let's talk ... Never heard of Hite Beer, but always love a drink ...

To tailor or not to tailor? When cost becomes the question

Guttersnipe's Quandary is Solved Is it a 42L? If so, problem solved: I'll buy it from you. ;) (PS Guttersnipe, that brown Jamaican 1930s jacket you gave me is still rocking my world -- and the world of everyone who sees me in it, including the convicts I teach in San Quentin, one of whom...

    The Lost Art of Manliness

Yep. You are lucky, then, because I know an immense number of males who have NOT stepped up. In fact, it is a huge problem in this nation alone (among some groups more than others!). The notion that a man should invest time, energy, money, affection, resources into his offspring is not...

Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

My goodness. I need a top hat bad. When I go to the symphony or opera, I have to wear a bowler, which is not nearly as good. Top hats on ebay uk are quite expensive.

    Show us your TIES

Cool ties. The one on the right does nothing for me. The middle one is amazing. The one on the left is the most intriguing, though. Is that a Victorian woman with a lacrosse racket? What is going on the picture? Is that vegetation above her?

    Show Us Your OVERCOATS

binkie: good man, great coat, great story. I have a nice overcoat at the tailor's now (she is extending the sleeves). It is a herringbone brown from the early 1940s or maybe late 1930s (I will defer to the likes of Chevalier on the dating). I'll post photos soon.

“Return to the Hundred Acre Wood"

My daughter still does not understand that Winnie is not a fecal matter. Her only association with the word Poo(h) is the latter one. Not sure what to do about this. Suggestions welcome. PS JuliePdx, great new avatar-photo.

    The Lost Art of Manliness

I have seen this too. I am often chided, by good and intelligent folks, for being overly harsh on the baby boomers (for a good look at what the baby boom actually was, I highly recommend the book Generations by Straus and Howe. It also explains, very nicely, the generations of the "Golden Era")...

    The Lost Art of Manliness

Interesting thread. I have not read the book in question, nor gone to the website. Here are some of the hidden tensions in this thread: 1.) The question of whether males and females are inherently different. In academia, at least -- or I should say, in the humanities and the softer of the...

Heavy agreement here. Unpainted wood, so that you can see the grain, with just a stain on it, is far nicer than paint.
