Many thanks, gents :) alsendk, the back is cotton, to keep it a little cooler. I'm pleased with how this is turning out, I can't wait to finish it. Now all we need is summer! (It's 40F and raining right now.)
The linen waistcoat is done (still needs a final press, but other than that...) Narrow facing on the back is slip-stitched in place, following the pictures that FlatFootFloey posted. It has a good fit, though I'll narrow the shoulders a bit on the next.
Photos in use are forthcoming.
That's wonderful. I've been looking for a bib overall pattern and haven't been able to find one (I don't count the horrid '70s overall patterns that I find occasionally.)
HBK, I thought about edge-stitching it by machine, but I ended up pick stitching it by hand right on the edge. I like the less visible look of the vintage-type pick stitching. Not the modern, fashionable stitch.
If the collar and neckband are exactly the same, the crumpling of the band tends to make it work its way out from under the collar. It's only attached at front and back, and I've noticed this on a couple of my shirts. Could be less of a problem with custom-made, where the shirtmaker is able to...
What I ended up using has a bit of stretch, but not much. However, I noticed that over at the Cutter and Tailor in the 'making a jacket' thread he used silesia cut on the bias. I'll probably use something different when I do the jacket.
There's no real standard to the things, unfortunately. I've had some collars that were a full inch bigger than the stated size. The only way to really know is to try it on, which is a concern with overseas shipping. You could always sell it if it doesn't fit.
Wow, excellent work! I'm looking for a pair similar to that to replace my current day-to-day footwear.
My suit progress has come to a sudden and grinding halt, I don't have any stay tape to tape the edges. My options are to cut some from cotton scraps I have or keep looking. I really want to...
The fork is pieced on those trousers, it's a way of cutting them out using the least amount of yardage, especially important with the narrower widths fabric was frequently made. The end of the hook is left off and sewn on with a piece of fabric from the bits left over.
I got that brown Mallory homburg today. It was described as no damage, but the sweatband is split, fragile, and almost entirely detached. But the hat's a beauty and fits great, so I've treated the leather and am going to try to repair the band. I just need to find a black one in my size now.
