"The Lost Musicians" by William Heinesen, 1957. It's about more or less strange people in a small town on the Faroe Islands. Very fun and well written, it reminds me of Steinbecks books about Cannery Row.
Thanks a lot, Kim B! I didn't even think to wiki it, I'm still getting used to the idea of a encyclopedia that contains everything! (Allmost.)
What a wonderful tradition, very fun to learn about! Lovely pics of the old ladies' cute bonnets. (I liked the one with the hegdehog best.) I hope as...
WARNING: This post contains stupid questions from an amazed, but puzzeled foreigner.
What is a easter bonnet, what does it look like, who wears it, when and why? I would like to know more, this might be fascinating! Pics?
I misread this the first time and thought you said Martha Stewart's bokk "the Crystal Cave". Instant mental image of Martha Stewart showing us how you just need som ornamental crystals, a ribbon and some flowers to turn a gloomy dark cave into a lovely middle-class home! lol
Oh my, what a beauty! I want to be rich, so I can have a repro build of that one as a birthday present for my man . Or one of this coctail shakers shaped as a zeppelin. I have no pics now, but there are some wonderful, and expencive ones, out there! Yes, we are a zeppeliner loving couple.
Thanks for all the tips! You have some wonderful ideas, pics and links. Thanks for sharing! I will show you the result, when it is done. (That will take a while.) Just don't be diapointed, the saon will not be true vintage, but a very modern place with some great vintage inspiration. (At least...
I thought of mentioning the Firefly style before, because of the old west- inspiration. Very cool. (But I did not fall for the show in general.) Blade Runner is very cool in the same way: Lots of cool 40s inspired women suits and hairstyles, as I recall. And for very old vintage, mixed with...
I'm a pale Scandinavian too. The only foundation I found i stores here in pale enough shade, was Max Factor's Lasting Performance in 100. But now I get my foundation from www.everydayminerals.com, which has a wide selection of pale shades.
Too bad i can't share the Norwegian radio theater with you. But BBC has great radio theater as well, (I have just discovered it, so I haven't heard many yet,) and you can find many of them here. For free, I think!
Warning: This post contains enthusiastic ramblings about national radio in a very small country, and might be utterly irrelevant to others than inhabitants in said very small country. If so, I apologise in advance.
I'm geographically lucky then, because the Radio Theater at NRK, (Norwegian...
My most treasured item is a wooden toy zebra. One of my grandmothers best friends gave it to my father when he was a child. This friend later on became a great friend of mine too, when I was 18 and she was 76. She was a wonderful lady, an artist like my grandmother, and travelled a lot. The...
I'm not sure what I mean either, I just thought something like: If I it can be done with setting lotion, maybe the same thing can be done as a perm, only lasting forever!"
I understand that it won't be the same thing, et least not the part of a hairstyle that needs to be teased or blow dried...
Perm question
I permed my hair for my wedding, as I wanted a vintagy look, and my hairdresser reccomended perm as she said it would help the wet set to last in my super fine, limp hair. She was right, and I like having permanent curls!
But, my hair is very long, and I wanted to wear it...
More pearls from Jonas Fljeld-books, this one describing one of the good doctors enemies.
Yes, there he stood, the killer, the true slave of the urges of the blood, the cossack soul with the red passion dripping from the corners of his eyes.
I know! It's so bad that it's good. Or something. His books are packed with lines like this. And everywhere tihis man (Jonas Fjeld) goes in the world, no matter what happens, he always gets the wanted response saying: "Let me though! I`m a norwegian doctor!
Thanks for the tip, but I have already done this. I was hoping for the favorite things the members might have shown me, that maybe are not the most famous . It would be nice to see something else than the usual "great classics".
Thanks anyway!
I think, in some ways girls are still walking a tight rope:Too many men and you are seen as a slut, to little experience and you are seen as a boring prude. I think these standards are more extreme for woman than for men, an that's unfair.
