Looks like a pretty thin hat to me
A big part of that is an illusion. Look at how droopy the heat has made the brim. The droopy brim makes the hat seem long from top to bottom. Cheers -

Congratulations on your latest acquisition. Yeah there's no comparison between most new hats and most vintage hats. It is like finding hidden treasure when you find a nice vintage hat.
