Aero? Simmons Bilt? Looking for my "Forever Leather Jacket"

Dark seal Vicenza is great, too, but it will take a long time to show any lighter undertones.

Aero? Simmons Bilt? Looking for my "Forever Leather Jacket"

Aero has the brown fqhh (really, really nice as it ages), which I think is their best leather. I also rate the seal goat and dark seal Vicenza highly, although they won't patina like the brown fqhh.

Aero? Simmons Bilt? Looking for my "Forever Leather Jacket"

Get a brown one - for casual wear. That's how you sort that one out.

One Jacket To Rule Them All

This is a tough question. I'd second the approach of getting one zipped jacket and one buttoned one. The two most useful I've had have been an Aero Maxwell in tumbled cordovan and an Aero Highwayman in brown fqhh. These were before I'd had a Vicenza jacket: it's an all-round hide I'd...

Thurston Italian Vicenza Horsehide Full Grain Veg.-Tanned Horsehide for Aero Jackets

Vicenza is definitely lighter than the fqhh - I found it immediately wearable, with no real break-in. Goat is probably the most pliable hide I've had in an Aero, with heavy steer hide being the least. The jerky HH is also immediately wearable, but it has a fairly 'spongy' feel to it and I've...

    Aero FQHH "heavy wear"....

I still reckon that fqhh gets the best overall patina - it just takes time and really frequent wear. In terms of weight, though, Vicenza is more wearable (at least to me). I'd really like to see black jerky hh after years of wear.

How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

I'd like to get a Sunburst in dark seal Vicenza (or any other really dark brown) with off-white stitching (or possibly a Mulligan), but the recent price hikes mean that this won't happen anytime soon. In the meantime, though, I have some others to be breaking in. I also quite want a supply...

    Aero FQHH "heavy wear"....

Aero brown fqhh Highwayman, 10+ years old (2009 purchase, I think). Definitely my favourite Aero overall.

    Waiting Too Long ruining excitement?

I'll wait 2-3 months for a custom thing, no problem. Any longer than that and I wouldn't order the item to begin with if we're talking 600 GBP plus - I'd just find something similar OTR.

    Aero sale annoucement

Wow, those prices have definitely gone up! I'm glad I ordered my probable last additions recently. The sale looked really good, but I couldn't quite pull the trigger. I was looking forward to ordering a Sunburst in Vic dark seal with some off-white stitching, but the costs now are too steep...

    Vicenza Horse Hide Patina?

I have a Mariner in dark seal and a Cafe Racer in blackened brown - the latter is too new to show much wear, but the Mariner is revealing a lighter brown undertone at cuff edges, etc. Vicenza wears through more slowly than CXL but quicker than goat. In terms of drape and weight, I reckon...

What would you tell your former self about ordering a custom Aero?

Size up on 30's patterns, size down on 50's patterns. For me, two sizes up on Café Racer. J.

    Aero sale annoucement

My old Stockman is on there :) I almost bought the battered tan Teamster, but I have enough bloody jackets now. Although....

Is this a weak point in the leather/stitching?

I reckon it's probably ok - the aesthetics don't bother me and I don't think it's technically damage. The above thread can be deleted.

Is this a weak point in the leather/stitching?

I've noticed this in the shoulder of a new Plainsman - having checked other jackets, this seems to be unusual (it looks like the leather top coat has split and the hide underneath is a bit, too). I hope not; having to send it back would be a major inconvenience. What do people think? As I...

    Tan/natural leather jacket

Ask if they have any mahogany or torf in stock. They're both tan colours-ish and wouldn't change much apart from usual patina.

do your view on clothes change after covid?

Lockdown changed a lot for me. I moved back to HK and threw out a lot of clothes to cut down on luggage weight, as I went with a bare minimum. I gave away one Aero to a buddy for helping out my kid and sold one, too. I bought three new ones, but they'll replace ones I'll also sell or move on...

Post pictures of your jacket collection

The black cafe racer is a size 44; the tan one is 42. I'm somewhere in-between these two sizes, although the larger one allows for a hoodie underneath. I am solidly impressed by both the jerky and Vicenza, although the Vicenza I think wins out overall. The tan steer hide is really thick and...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

'Kiss Me Deadly' 1955. Then I watched 'Point Blank' 1967. Good movies.

Post pictures of your jacket collection

And a Plainsman in black jerky HH, a Work Coat in russet Badalassi and a Pike Bros. deck jacket. Giving everything half an hour in the sun prevents spores. It's very hot in HK at the moment :)
