Maybe we should amend #3 to say "Listened to music on AM radio" as that band is almost exclusively news, talk and sports nowadays.
My parents received a telegram informing them that the rental house they owned burned down. That was in 1964, and I don't recall if anyone in our immediate...
I'm seeing a lot of action taking place on the biodiesel front lately, so I'd see how that shakes out before getting into a new vehicle. You Avalon should give you many more years of service with proper maintenance.
When you get it in your hands, it'll be easy to tell. A true bowler is hard like a helmet and a homburg will be soft enough to shape. Either way, you've got yourself a swell hat! :)
Edit: Looking at the pictures again, I see some slight dents in the felt, so I'll say it's a Homburg. Just...
Well, forget the bootleg, "Zero Hour" will be released on DVD on June 26. It'll be available by itself or as part of a box set with the great "Hot Rods to Hell" also starring Dana Andrews. Hooray!
My father was born in 1906 in England, my mother in 1916 in Austria. They both moved to the United States after WWII, Dad was divorced and Mom was a widow. If WWII hadn't happened, they probably would never have come here and never would have met. I owe my existence to WWII, and perhaps to...
Dana Andrews and a DC-4? Heck, that's "Zero Hour"! If you liked "Airplane," go find a bootleg copy of Zero Hour and I guarantee you'll love it. Besides Andrews, it features Sterling Hayden at his Sterling Hayden-est. "Guess I picked the wrong week to quit smokin'."
I loved the color combination of my Dobbs Homburg so much, I started looking for a fedora to match. This one came along, and it's probably the fedora I wear the most:
This one has had the sweatband replaced at some point along the line, and some kind of waterproof strip added behind the...
Oh boy, my Dobbs collection is second only to my Stetson collection. Here are my two favorites, though. One is a brown Homburg that was sold by Higbee's in Cleveland, of "A Christmas Story fame:
I think the "transitional" look comes about because I was playing around with the very soft brim and tried a Homburg-like dip in the front and back. That, along with a center dent in the crown with no side dents really brought out the '20s look.
Oh, this one's a keeper for sure.
So you all think it's really from the 1920s? The sweatband shows no wear whatsoever after 80+ years. I will apply some Lexol before I wear it, though, to be safe. The moth nibbles are minimal, no holes and only a few tiny spots where the nap is gone...
I had to jump on this one, even though I've managed to stay away from the Bay for a while.
It's brown and it's really fuzzy, almost Huggy Bear fuzzy, but I did a double-take when I saw the logo on the liner and the sweat. Not 1970s at all, but what do you think, maybe 1920s?
Take a...
