Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

A liar is a liar, simple as that. They are indeed best avoided. Why Ebay continues to allow his shenanigans I don't know; I guess because they get their money regardless. Ebay's reputation hit the skids long ago, anyway.

Don't laugh - I'm pretty sure I know some of the people he's talking about! :D

I'm a born cheapskate (maybe due to my strong Scots heritage ;) ), so I'm always interested in honorable ways to get free stuff that fits my interests. I'd like to hear your tips, if you'd care to share.

How about that vintage western look

I think "just because" is enough for a neat piece like that! :)

    Musician's hats

"Ruuuu-beeee, Ruby!" I can't ever think about the Osborne brothers without hearing that line. Bobby had a distinctive voice that rang like, well, a big spike hammer. ;) He will be missed. Sonny's been gone almost a couple of years now.

Vintage posters and other paper ephemera

Interesting information! For some reason, my vague recollection told me that Willie's "Honeysuckle Rose" movie was named after Hoyt's bus - that Hoyt had originated the name. But that's an old memory dredged up from years ago, and I may well have it all mixed up. Hoyt's song about his...

    Western, anyone?

Haha! I thought the same thing. I bet the bake cycle is good for the sweatband, too! My goodness.

The original "Honeysuckle Rose", I believe, that he bought from Commander Cody. Hoyt was a great songwriter, singer, and entertainer. He always seemed to be a humble, sincere person, but I always picture him with that mischievous grin he had.

    Western, anyone?

Someone on the Lounge here lately was talking about a waxed felt hat that they had posted photos of, but of course I can't seem to find it now.

I'm all for loafering, but I'm not sure that's a pot-bellied stove. ;) Still a neat photo though.

Good to see you back! If I remember right, you had started into truck driving at one point. Are you still with it? I figure you probably have some tales to tell from that experience!

Photographs Of Hats Fresh From Surviving The Elements

Thank y'all for the responses and for the video link, I enjoyed it! He mentioned several times getting "sprayed" through the vents, which makes sense based on the angle. And I had to laugh when the little one got the "horizontal rain" involved! :D

Photographs Of Hats Fresh From Surviving The Elements

I've always been curious how much water would actually come in the small grommet vents, such as the one Akubra uses, in a hard rain. I've always avoided vented hats for fear they would leak badly. Anyone have actual experience with this that they would share?

That’s a sharp hat, congratulations! I especially like the tall crown and the tucked ends on the ribbon - that’s a nice touch. I hope you enjoy it for many years to come.

    Hat Stretchers

Nicely done! Thanks for sharing the process with us. Instead of making more of these stretchers, you may consider making solid wood blocks to slip into your hats to hold the shape once the stretcher has done its work. I made several for myself to hold some of my stubborn hats in shape when I'm...
