Do you wear a slip with a lined skirt?
For those of you gals that wear slips, do you wear them with lined clothes? I was putting on a lined skirt today and this thought occurred to me. I know the reasoning behind wearing slips is to give a more smooth and finished look, but with the skirt being...
Lizzie,
I was raised and live in the heartland of farm country, but how would someone ship a hog? That is so hilarious! Thanks for shedding new light on chain letters. It just goes to show what's old is new again...but I haven't received any hog chain letters lately. lol
Hondo,
I certainly feel your pain as I have lost several special people in my life too. Someone once said that "death is 100%, no one escapes it." The sadness and sense of loss that you feel is felt by everyone at one time or another who has lost a loved one or friend. What you are feeling is...
My local postmaster told me that even if its not money that changes hands that its still considered a chain letter. I never understood this logic because over the years I've gotten my share of chain letters that asked you to send a children's book, seeds, and other stuff. I don't do chain...
Elaina,
I didn't realize that chain letters went that far back. What an interesting collection, ugly earrings or not. Unfortunately, chain letters are illegal according to the U.S. Postal service and I'm surprised that the "chain" continued to 1984. I always wondered if people actually got the...
Sunny,
Why not get several colors to go with different outfits? I've got brown, black, gray and cream, although I use the cream one for mostly spring/summer. I'm currently looking for a red and a navy colored purse. I prefer leather as it holds up better than other purse materials. You can...
Bubbles,
I second, Grnidwitch's suggestion. I think bibs and a bandana in your hair would look just darling. I've seen lots of bib overalls at the thrift stores, so maybe you will find some there. They're usually reasonably priced too. For shoes, how about your standard "keds"-type of shoes...
Helen Troy, the "traditional" Ponds is the Cold Cream Cool Classic". That's the stuff that I use and a lot of gals here use it too, I believe. I haven't tried the cucumber one, but since I don't particularly care for cucumbers, it didn't appeal to me. The Deep Cleanser is exactly that, a deep...
My mom has been trying to get her grandsons to take ballroom lessons. She tells them it will give them confidence, balance and poise and that girls will be impressed with their skills. So far, no one has taken up grandma's offer to pay for lessons. My 22 year old son said, "Grandma, nobody...
CanadaDoll,
Magnolia Hosiery (google it because it has a few racey pics on it, not bad tho.) I just went there and they have beige with black seams and other colors and stuff. I get my regular FF stockings from them. They're a stocking company in the southern USA that still uses the original...
Oh, duh!:eusa_doh:
I didn't think to look in the Sears catalogs re: tablecloths. I've got a book with Sears catalogs from 1930 to 1939 and I forgot that there's other things listed in there besides clothing.
Thanks, Lizzie for your input. I've decided to use stuff I like in my decor as...
Don't forget the diamond tiaras! I just saw a bachelorette party at a restaurant and the bride-to-be was wearing a tiara. I think it was a cheap fake, but you sure could see the bling! Remember Marilyn really loved the diamond tiara. Maybe you could find some inexpensive fake diamond tiaras as...
I've been trying to find out what kind of tablecloths (if any) would of been used on a parlor table in the livingroom in the 30s and 40s. I have my eye on a long fringed one, but now I'm wondering if it would be appropriate for a 1930s-1940s home decor. We're putting together an eclectic 30s-40s...
Depends on the size of the hats and the traincase. You don't want to squish your hats. I don't know if there's a difference between vintage and new hatboxes. I would think as long as they're large enough so that your hats don't get mishapen in the box, then either would work. Perhaps someone who...
I use several hatboxes and some of my favorites are hanging on hooks on my wall. I found some vintage-looking hatboxes at a Gordman's (its kind of a high end outlet store) and found some others at a dollar store. I've even seen some reasonably priced vintage ones at thrift and antique shops. And...
Leslie,
I've tried those ball-of-foot cushions too, but it seemed my feet still slid down. Sometimes they would be too "pillowy" and put pressure on the top of my foot from the shoe.
Maybe I should put some flypaper in my shoes and then my feet will stay put! ;)
