Nice hat!
While I don't know all the technicalities about fedoras, I do know when a man looks good in them. Steve you look sharp! I'll bet the ladies will be falling over each other to get a gander at you!
Happy sewing, Amber!
Good for you figuring out the problem--women really are resourceful!
Be sure to post pictures when you get your first sewing project completed!
Amber,
Can I ask what kind of sewing machine you have?
My machine won't work unless its plugged in AND the light switch is turned on. Must be some kind of safety feature. Do you have a switch on the side or something to turn on the light?
Amber,
What exactly is the problem? You can't get it to turn on? Or need help threading it? If its not threaded right, it won't work properly.
When I first started out sewing, I used scraps of fabric and practiced sewing on them. I'd fold the fabric and sew it and also tried out different...
For you ladies that are experienced and comfortable doing your own vintage hairstyles (like JBD), how long or how much practice will it take for the rest of us to graduate from "curling class"?
I know this isn't exactly what this thread is about, but I'm curious how long some of you have been...
Oh, Kimberly, that looks so cute!
You can also try using more hair on each roller to get a less tight curl too.
But you've got a beautiful face so I imagine any hairstyle looks good on you.
Are you still sleeping in hard curlers or do you use the sponge ones?
I agree, I wouldn't want any male "lewd" comments on some of our threads, but I doubt there are any men on the FL that would do such a thing. But its a good safety net for the "1-post lurkers" out there that might try.
I know my hubby (who's also on the FL, by the way) doesn't have much...
I found the Lottabody at Wal-mart too!
Its in the hair care section in the ethnic part. I don't dilute it, but I did put some of it into a small spray bottle to make it easier to use. It was pretty cheap too. So when you decide to take the plunge and get the hot sticks, I'll bet you'll find...
jonniangel, I hear ya about the fried hair thing, been there.
I use the Conair Hot Sticks. (I got them at Wal-mart) I haven't used the Babyliss ones. I used to have the Conair Hot Sticks years ago when they first came out but I never liked the hairstyle that it gave me (before I turned to...
Gridwitch,
I also touched up the sides above the curls with my triple barrel curling iron to give it some more waves. I did notice when I was brushing it out that I could easily have switched to a more 40s hairstyle if I didn't use the curling iron and maybe added some rolls (if I was that...
I think the general consensus is that having some separate categories will make searching for particular topics helpful. But I, like Rosie, would like to know if there would be a basic Powder Room and once you enter that, there would be categories for hair, for makeup, etc. It would be a bonus...
Kimberly, I'm sorry your hair didn't turn out like you wanted it to. But the story you told trying to get that look was just too hilarious! I don't have any suggestions about how to keep the curlers in when you sleep. Its never worked for me, no matter what type of curlers I use. I think when...
OK, Snookie,
Here's a side view. Granted, I've been out in the wind and I was running late getting ready for church this a.m. and couldn't spend as much time on my hair as I would have liked.
This is my everyday hairstyle, but when I've got the time to do my hair, I'll spray a little...
My 30-ish hairdo
After seeing all you lovely gals post pictures, I've decided to take the plunge and show you mine. Here's one I took today and after being outdoors in 45 m.p.h. windgusts, it still looks pretty good. (Ignore my ruddy face)
Since my hair is very fine and thin, I have to wash...
I've got a basement just like that!
I keep my shoes on a long wire shoe rack that can be either hung over a door on mounted on a wall. Mine is mounted on the inside side of the closet. My hubby and I share a very small closet and now that he's into vintage dressing, he's taking over the...
Well, I'm going to stick with the Pond's for now. I've NEVER had my face look as well as it has the past two weeks since I've switched to the Pond's. I've had adult acne for a long, long time (the only 'youthful' thing left on me!) and finally my skin looks great! The other night it looked like...
Well, I just ordered a pair of those strap holders. I'll let you know if they work. I have slight scoliosis in my spine. Just enough to have rounded shoulders and everything falls off my shoulders--even elastic bra straps. When I was a kid, my mom used to yell at me telling me to stand up...
GoldLeaf,
I don't know if this would work for your strap problem, http://www.acmenotions.com/pinsnshstgu.html but I can see it would definitely help with my rounded shoulders and my slip continually falling down inside my blouse/dress. They've got a lot of interesting vintage sewing/lingerie...
Thanks, gals, for your input in my slip conundrum. I'm allergic to wool, that is, it really irritates my skin, so I always wear a slip with a wool skirt because while the skirt part may be lined, sometimes the waistband is not. Actually, a lot of "scratchy" fabrics bother me, so I do wear a lot...
