texasgirl,
Those hot sticks take some getting used to. You have to work fast. Maybe my fingers have toughened up since I've been using them a while. I got my hair trimmed a bit too and the back is a little tricky now. I think if you can get the hot rollers to work for you, you ought to go with...
I have combination skin and my routine is almost the same as Goldleaf's.
And I second it, no, it doesn't leave my face oily. But that's probably because I only use it at night and using a toner afterwards really helps.
Hot Sticks
texasgirl,
You can get the Hot Sticks at a lot of places. I got mine at Wal-Mart, but have seen them elsewhere and you can order them online too. They take a little practice and the sticks can get hot if you heat them up for a while. My hair takes a curl pretty easy so they don't...
texasgirl,
I think you could curl the back with the Hot Sticks if you still wanted to do the foam curlers on the rest of your hair. I've been working on my hair using them and when I feel confident with my 'do', I'll post some pictures. The Hot Sticks will give a similar curl as to what you...
Ladies! I am selling 2 sets of the foam Sassy Curlers--gently used--only 2 times. I've decided that I prefer to use either the Hot Sticks or foam curlers to curl my hair. These are the same foam curler sticks (you put them in like the Hot Sticks) that Jitterbugdoll and Daisy Buchanan use. (Do a...
My vintage prom photo
OK, here's a more "vintage" prom photo--way back to 1977 in my senior year of high school. Our family home had burned to the ground just 4 months before and money was tight. I sewed my prom dress and thought it turned out really nice. At least no other girl had the same...
I saw this the other night and, I too, was terribly disappointed. I had really thought I'd pick up a few pointers how to do 30s and 40s hair, but I think I'm getting better advice here on the Lounge! I'm not sure if cosmetology students study vintage hairstyles, but a friend of mine did when he...
Try Hot Sticks???
Texasgirl, you are SO beautiful! And you can carry off long and short styles. If time is of a premium, might I suggest the Hot Sticks? Jitterbugdoll first suggested them here on the Lounge and they really do give a pretty darn close pin-curl look. All you would have to do is...
Goldleaf, I want to extend my congratulations on your new arrival too! :eusa_clap
I echo Etienne's comments earlier as well as some of the others. Concentrate on your marriage and preparing for your new arrival. I've been married 25+ years--very unusual in my part of the country and I know...
portrait pink lipstick
Shearer,
I love that color on you! It really is a pale pink, but not as pale as I assumed. Now I may have to go buy that Trio set on the bay after all! I'm looking for a light, casual everyday lipstick and maybe that will work for me.
Thanks for posting the pic!
Also, be aware that although there may be stores in your area that carry Rago products, sometimes they only carry one or two styles and not all the lines. I found this out myself when I was recommended a certain department store. They didn't carry the item I was looking for, although the sales...
Besame Portrait Pink lipstick--photos?
Since the Besame Wild Orchid lipstick looks totally different on the lips than what is shown on the tube (I really thought it looked too purple-y), does anyone have a photo of the Portrait Pink lipstick? Shearer said it washed her out. I was wondering if...
Kim, here's a link to a good website that explains darts and it looks likes there's a lot of information for the beginning sewer as well as those who are intermediate (like me). http://www.sewing.org/enthusiast/html/el_darts.html
I 'third' the foundation garments as they will give you a really smooth line.
I was going to say a burgandy red lipstick rather than a bright red and maybe elbow length to 3/4 length gloves. And I like the black shoes with the dress better than the lighter colored ones (just my opinion), with...
Thanks, Kitty, for informative links. I was curling my hair with the Sassy curlers by the 2nd link's method. The first link showed the hair to be set like large pincurls. That's very interesting. I just wish there was more details explaining the whole styling process with the Sassy curlers...
Re: Sassy Curlers
I've used these a couple of times, but I'm wondering if I'm setting my hair wrong with them. I have fine, thin hair that takes a curl fairly easy. My hair is very curly after I use these, no matter how large of a section of hair that I use. Would any of you gals that use the...
Same here for me. I get quite a shock in the mirror too. In a couple of years I'll be at that half-century mark. Maybe that "young at heart" thing isn't so bad after all. ;)
