    Hats in the news

They are pretty popular with the women my age, so I'm sure more then one has had to suffer threw a night or two of said shows in order to watch football on the weekends lol. The real question is how many of said men/teens actually listen to "designer runway shows", for tips :p .

New Generation Brims With Anxiety Over Hat Etiquette

I hear what both you and JLee are saying. Their are plenty of things I simply don't understand on a knee jerk reaction level, when I read some post (such as many of the dumbest comments post before it was locked), I've never been bullied for how I dress, or for what is on my head. People rarely...

New Generation Brims With Anxiety Over Hat Etiquette

Of course, your in San Fran, I'm in the Adirondack Mountains (if I told you exactly where 9/10 you'd have no idea). Our cultures couldn't be more different, unless you completely left the US. Almost everything I hear about San Fran I find to be absurd so why wouldn't you find things here equally...

    Great Film Scenes

One of the most moving things I have witnessed on film was between John Wayne and Lauren Bacall, in The Shootist. The scene has Wayne and Bacall about to eat breakfast one morning. Simple enough right? But for some reason it has always touched me. After getting into an argument with eachother...

New Generation Brims With Anxiety Over Hat Etiquette

I always take my hat off when I'm in an elevator with a lady, and it has never caused a negative reaction yet. I always get a smile, or a conversation because of it. "Well dressed, and a proper gentleman!" as one thirty something lady, said about three months ago now to me on such an...

Can smoking be good for you?

I know of one study done by a sociologist, who was looking at the risk of pipe tobacco smoking since there are so few studies on the subject. He found that people who are non inhaling pipe smokers, and not former cigarette smokers, lived longer then non-smokers by 42 months (or something like...

Can smoking be good for you?

Smoking increases memory, reaction time, and a person's awareness. As a dedicated pipe smoker, "the ritual" allows me time to think about issues. As the great Albert Einstein said, As a New York pipe smoker though, my blood pressure increases every time I purchase tobacco, and see all...

    1943 vs. 1776

I don't think so. I have a lot of respect for the Greatest Generation, and I don't think they get the credit they deserve most times (especially in light of the baby boomers idealizing their youth), but I don't see them at the same level of 1776's generation. Plenty of things alter how we see...

"Mad Men" on AMC (US) - (Spoilers Within)

This episode really didn't do much for me. That young woman was annoying.

    Stop for Nazi posts?

I think some of you guys are simply to sensitive, sometimes I wonder how many people here I'd actually get along with in real life. I seem to be seeing lots of that on this forum lately . I'd sell a fascist uniform, to a communist, so long as they paid the right price. I could care...

    Nudie Suits

It's a shame that modern country stars don't ever pay tribute to the classics. Their are plenty who don't even wear hats anymore, saddly.

Hat Wearers: You're Just Trying to Be Don Draper. Stop It.

I have to be honest, all these people who are getting insulted left and right for wearing hats, or (gasp) a suit and hat.... well I just don't get it. I've never been insulted to any great degree, and the only people who have even tried were teenagers. Now I'm 24 years old, I'm not middle aged...

    Old fashioned names new again....

I've always liked the sound of the name Hollis, but I don't know anyone with that name lol.

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

Pixar is a great treasure, and Up! is a great movie, and this is coming from someone who really doesn't like Ed Asner.

Hat Wearers: You're Just Trying to Be Don Draper. Stop It.

Bah Bah Bah Look at all the white sheep bah at the black sheep! We are the wrong color they say, we are being ourselves we say, yet they don't seem to understand that princaple. Why would anyone choose to not be white like the majority! Because we aren't like the majority we respond. They bah...

    1957-1965 (or 1963)

IMO all you have to do is look at the "heroes" in the pop culture of the time, compared to now. Westerns, film noir, and sport movies were the films of the day. Hero's were hero's back then. Post modernism didn't exist, and stories didn't need to be in all greys, and even the bad guys you...

New Swanepoel/Stetsons: "Fewer than 50 of these hats will ever be produced."

I agree in general. They're not for me, but whatever gets people interested.

Where do you think vintage is more popular?

It surprises me a bit honestly, because if I recall correctly it was places like LA where the "vintage" style started dying out, well the East Cost held onto it longer. History can be ironic in a way though.

New Swanepoel/Stetsons: "Fewer than 50 of these hats will ever be produced."

It's more about the name brand and what's "in" then whever they actually look good or not. Combine that with the fact that their are only 50 being made for each, and I'm sure they will sell.
