My understanding is that they stopped to market this jacket under "the Few" production which is geared to the Japanese market. They are great jackets but very expensive.
Oh forgot to answer one of your original questions on why Aero does not do this type of work. I know they have done alterations in the past but it is a real hassle to send an item to the UK and get it back. That could be part of the reason but I am not sure. May be another question to ask on...
Ebay can be a funny thing. It depends on the time of year that you sell. Some very experienced jacket sellers (I am not one of them) said to sell A2s or jackets like it in the fall and buy in the summer when prices appear to be low. I guess it depends on the jacket too. Long sizes are...
I had a similar situation and opted to sell the jacket on ebay and buy another one. Yeah I lost some money but I now have a jacket that fits. I don't think the area you want altered can be done. I might be wrong but because of the construction of the A2 I don't think it can be done. You can...
HI,
I think if you get John Chapman's CD on flight jackets there is a whole section on Navy jackets. He has them on ebay and I think they are BIN under 30 bucks. I have one and it is an invaluable reference and the pictures are fantastic.
I am one of those guys that got the knits replaced on my original RW A2 they were in shreds. So no chance in keeping them. I got Flight Suits to do the replacement (which they don't do any more rats). The knits are very close to original and the work superb. It is a shame they don't do this...
Man Grant if I did not have your former russet goatskin RW I would try and squeeze into this one. Hey is the 44 I got bigger than this 44? Just wondering?
George
This is US sizing. But you have to be real careful on RMNZ sizing. I wear a 42 R in ELC jackets and either a 42 or 44 in Aero (depending on the style of A2). RMNZ is a bit tricky. In their Monarch I take a 44 and their Roughwear Goatskin model a 44. I could have probably got away with a 44...
I prefer mine unsnapped. Most of the photos show jackets unsnapped. I do hate the collar rubbing my neck (particularly with collar stands). I do it with my repros and my originals as well. It is more of a comfort thing than anything else.
Go to this site to see an A2 with 101 abn patches on it

There is also a photo of a 82nd Abn troop with an A2 with the 82nd patch on the jacket (American Flight Jackets, Airmen and Aircraft pg156).
Also as mentioned before the Band of Brothers...
Bought it from a guy I know from NZ. He got the jacket made at RMNZ and asked for that leather. I know two other follows who got jackets from the wardrobe and the leather is the same type. Great leather almost like an original.
Thought I would post some pics of my new (at least new to me) RMNZ Dubow. It is made of the same lot of horsehide leather used in the Band of Brothers series. It is wonderfully broke it and has the real "been there" look. Enjoy.
Scot,
I must have got lucky. I got my Monarch ELC in a week because they had my size in stock. Also got a beaut of a Star ELC off ebay and got it in less than a week. I have dealt with HPA and with jackets it is rare to have that long of a wait. I sure hope the wait is worth it for the...
Didn't get to go to any of the airfields when I visited England a few years back but have made many trips to Hawaii. Got to stand at the tower on Ford Island which was part of the focal point of the attack on Ford Island on 7 Dec 41. Same tower was used in the movie "Pearl Harbor". Got to...
For those of you who would like to try the Hot water treatment here is how John Chapman does it. He is a master of this technique and has done a couple of jackets for me with no bad results. It is also not a quick process as one can see from his instructions below.
For the hot water...
