Make your own vintage inspired hats

That's too bad. I've had my eye on those for a while, too. I really like all the patterns I've gotten from her. I don't think they'll edit the pattern, cause I think she tries to remain as true to the original source material as possible. [huh]

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

Ditto what everyone says. I think we all make mistakes! We're not robots! I can't sew late at night either- even if my body feels awake my brain often times isn't all there. If I'm sewing late and I make one mistake I set it aside because I know more will follow! Sometimes I won't even rip...

Is dressing vintage a purely modern day phenomenon?

Very true! And I forgot to mention that the Victorians had their "interpretations". They'd often make over lots of things (including old castles!) to meet their ideals. Funny folks, the Victorians ;) I've seen some dresses on Ebay like the ones you've mentioned. 18th century gowns that...

Is dressing vintage a purely modern day phenomenon?

I think about this a lot, too. And I wonder if I would have dressed in Victorian clothing in the 1930s, etc. Can you imagine what the charity shops had back then?? I'm sure there *were* small groups of people who took up aesthetic dress. I know the pre-raphaelites in the late 1800s and...

Salsanadia, your suit is perfectly lovely! I adore the pictures, too! Thanks so much, Ladies, on the comment on my dress :) Idledame, thanks so much for the comment on the fabric. I really believe that there's a fabric for every dress and whenever they come together it's meant to be...

    The Vintage Fur Thread

I love Nigella. I use her baking book a lot. I've already said my opinion on fur before, so I'll leave that alone ;)

Yay! Thanks, gals! Swingal, I totally admit that I'm really irritated when I make something up and it doesn't look like the cover. lol I was just telling my husband last night that one of the reason I love McCall patterns so much is because they nearly always look the way the illustration...

Thanks, gals! Yup, is a once piece dress. I had the pattern for YEARS and thought all this time it was a suit, which is probably why I put off making it lol Go figure it was a dress all along!

Ooh! Kamikat, that's adorable!! Love the patterns, too :) I just finished my shirtwaist dress. Yay! I am pretty happy I remembered to cut the sleeves to match my stripes with the bodice :) More on this project on my blog.

Those are all kinds of awesome. Yeah, wierd about the sizing thing. I mean, they *had* juniors sizing by then, too, or else I'd think that was it. Maybe they just did it with select patterns, like how select patterns were available in plus size, too. Or maybe under a certain size they...

    Rockabilly Clothes

Sometimes you can get lucky in thrift shops and pick up very "retro" sun dresses. There's a lot of dresses made in the 80s that have a 50s vibe. I've got a couple I wear all the time in summer and picked up for under $8 a piece. Just become familiar with styles and keep your eyes peeled...

So cute! I love the lacing details! I actually almost fell out of my chair when I found this. Missing the instructions, but so what? Yum Yum! And I have some cotton pique in green and yellow that's already in the stash!

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

Cici, Since you're slim I think you could wear the stripe any which way. I love playing with stripes! Two of my favorite things to do are to cut patch pockets on the bias, or cut a skirt on the bias with a matching "V" in front. I've done that with blouses with a center front seam, too. But...
