I'm on the tail end (I hope!) for an Akubra Fedora model in burnt oak from Everything Australian. It will be three months on June 15 and I'm getting a bit antsy. I've ordered several other hats from there and they've taken 2 to 2 1/2 months. Looks like this one might go a bit over 3. I know -...
While I'm a great believer in buying a wool hat first to see if you like wearing hats at all, I definitely wouldn't spend $139 for one. There are many fur hats on ebay for far less. Just look for one that is shaped like the woolie you liked and go for it.
And I'll third it. I've had a Capricorn for several years now and it hasn't lost its shape or been affected by sun, water or mud. A quick spray off and it's ready to go again. I've worn it throughout the summer even up in the 90's with no problem. I like it so much that I recently bought a...
Caught outside in a sudden rain while doing some work. My Akubra Snowy River laughed it off.
Of course it was made to handle A LOT more than I (or Mother Nature) can dish out!
By the way I picked this Snowy River up at an antique store for $12.
:D
My Stetson after being caught out in the rain.
Some people like the sound of the rain on an umbrella. I feel the same when it hits the brim of my hat!
:)
Latest on the Final Federation. Strange how you can be out shoveling snow off the sidewalk and still get rained on.
Even stranger is how taking an indoor pic of the tawny fawn color always seems to turn out grey.
A pic of my tawny fawn Federation IV after shoveling snow while in a light rain storm. Crazy weather we've been having!
And yes that is a tawny fawn and not grey LOL. The camera never seems to catch the color indoors!
Personally, I go for one of my Akubra Capricorns. I tried a straw hat but got caught in a sudden downpour and it turned into a wavey mess. My Capricorn on the other hand got blown off my head and landed into a pool of water. I picked it up, shook off the water and put it back on, no worse for...
I also have one of each. For me the Deluxe is nice but quite a bit stiffer. The felt is better and you can tell that right off, but the sweatband felt less conforming and it took awhile to warm up to it. The standard Imperial grade felt is soft and it seems in no time that it's buttery soft...
Heer's a pic of the Final Fed after last weeks rain. Not quite the amount predicted, but it did get a bit wet.
Like the Feds before it, it kept my glasses clean and my head dry! What more could you ask of it?
:p
Well the rains are coming through! Light rain today as reflected by my Moonstone Fed IV. Took the drizzle with no problems - as I would expect it to! LOL
Tomorrow though we're supposed to get over an inch of rain. Looks like my Tawny Fawn Fed might be getting its first bath! The...
Good luck with that! LOL I say that after almost every hat I've bought. I tell the wife "Yeah, this should do it. I have a great assortment of styles and colors. Yep this should be the last one. " At that point she just rolls her eyes.
Well it's been awhile since I wrote anything about my final Federation, but be assured that it's in regular rotation with my other hats. Here's a shot of my hat at work in the Post Office - of course this is before I opened the office LOL
It's softening up nicely and the felt feels...
Another day of rain and luckily I had my new Fed IV on and as usual the Akubra just laughed it off!
I don't necessarily like being out in the rain, but with a good hat on your head I do get a smile from the noise the
rain makes on it. Weird how the tawny color looks grey with the water...
