Looking at ordering an Aero leather jacket...assistance if you will

Vicenza is an ideal hide - I've had about 14 Aeros and really rate Vicenza.

How has your taste in leather jackets changed over the years?

I go for lighter hides now - mid-weight leather I find just as protective, more flexible and easier to wear. Goat, if I could find it in a wider range of colours, would be my preference. Vicenza is also great. Steer hide I find too thick and too squeaky. I've just received an SB Car Coat in...

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

SB Car Coat in Black Mustang just arrived. A rather lovely thing. Weight distribution is perfect - no neck hang, fit across the body pretty much ideal. I really like the way that the sizing is true - this is a 40 which fits on par with OTR size 40s that fit well. At this sort of pattern and...

How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

SB Car Coat in Black Prairie on the way. I find myself wanting something in Rough Out brown or black. This in not healthy...

Aero options balancing strong grain and good longevity

I found Badalassi to be good - it's lighter than FQHH and fairly pliable. It doesn't squeak too much after breaking in and looks great with a bit of wear on it. Aero's goat is the most 'practical' of their offerings, IMHO.

Aero options balancing strong grain and good longevity

I live in Hong Kong where there is often significant humidity. Aeros at 17 years old and 6-10 years old have shown no rot or degradation. During the daytime we don't run the air-conditioning that much, but it tends to be on at night. As long as they're hung up and aired, no problem with any...

How to tell if shinki is teacore

It's a gruesome affliction if the fading is too quick :(

How to tell if shinki is teacore

This is from Shangri-La, or something. Awful:

How to tell if shinki is teacore

Yep, Aero's jerky is like this - the black topcoat wears off very quickly and shows a russet/brown base. Now, the question is - does this float your boat? For me, the answer is 'Not on most days' and I would have much rather have this particular Plainsman in a solid, struck-through black, but...

Thoughts on the Aero midweight 'Soft Grainy Steerhide'?

I'd pick goat - it's really flexible and just as tough, but lighter and thinner. If you are willing to consider horsehide, Vicenza is a happy medium between goat and steer. Badalassi is great, but it squeaks a fair bit. My Cafe Racer in tan steer hide is so heavy that it just doesn't get the...

Have you slept in new leather jackets to break in?

Yes, but I had a solid few beers beforehand. It didn't break the jacket in much.

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

That's a great jacket. Swimming is handy for getting jackets to fit less snugly.

They look like the very last thing you'd be wanting to wear in prison.

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

I went through a patch of wanting chest pockets removed (I never have inner chest pockets), but I think I just got used to them. I once thought about simplifying a Cafe racer to have no zip pockets and just slash pockets at the sides, but I couldn't do it :)

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

I'm the opposite - whether zipped or unzipped, I feel that jackets look more balanced with chest pockets unless they're like the Aero Stockman or Work Coat. If they're centre zipped I definitely prefer a zipped pocket; other buttoned jackets an open pocket. The one 1950s HB I own has no chest...

How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

I'm waiting on an SB Car Coat in black prairie hide - it's gone into production, so should be on its way soon. This is an Aero Veste de Rallye in brown. I also want this, but now I don't need it: Where there is choice, there is misery. It's at least cooling down in Hong Kong :)

    Aero Mulligan

Then a shorter Stockman might be an idea. It's both quite formal and functional. This is a Veste de Rally (similar):

    Aero Mulligan

I think a Mulligan or a Maxwell in mid-weight brown HH would be great. My cordovan Maxwell is a fantastic jacket. A similar style (although different fit and very different back design) is SB's Klondike: I have one in black goat and it would also be a fine thing in a heavier mid-weight hide...

    Are Aero Jackets that good?

Haha, good - I like Global's knives and they've improved my hobby :) I really like Aero jackets; I'm sure a Thedi or Freewheelers is somehow 'better' (SBs have better neck-fittings than Aeros, but I usually prefer Aeros overall and they're at a similar price), but I'd need to buy a Thedi or a...
