I just a few minutes ago submerged the entire hat in a bath of hydrogen peroxide 3% and I plan to leave it soaking for 12-18 hours. If all goes well the hat overall will be clean again and the ink stains faded to a pale shade of sky blue. Then I need to have it reblocked and a new sweat/hat...
I think the ink bath is too extreme since the only color that will truly mask the stains would be black or dark purple. If I thought brown would work I would do it in a heartbeat but I'm sure the stain would still show through that color.
As I said above, sit tight and let's see what my...
Technically you are right! I intentionally blew out the background which I though was distracting, I thought the white glow behind you would convey the heat better and the lighter detail on your clothing less distracting from your overall look...but I'm just the unauthorized "biographer" It's...
You know ccajackson, that's not a bad idea. Here's my experience so far:
Immediately after the ink splattered on the hat I rinsed it in cold water which took the pitch black stains down to a charcoal/blue color...but still very pronounced staining top and bottom.
Next I soaked the forward...
Thanks for the tips ccajackson, I'll try to find the Amodex, and I'll try the others as well but I think the hat is a lost cause.
I like the simi-colado dwebber18, could have used one the last few days here in New York!
Does anyone know where PB is? I emailed him, PM'ed him AND left him a...
Yes it was from PB and he spent months tracking it down for me, it was truly a gift considering what I paid for it versus what similar hats regularly retail for. It was 625 wpi and had exceptionally consistant weaving. Art then blocked it and fabricated a gorgeous band in Burgundy from vintage...
R.I.P!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well guys...it was bound to happen. There is a cosmic force that dictates that when a guy shows off something dear...it's inevitably going to be marked for ruin. Last night while refilling my Mont Blanc fountain pen(something I do regularly and with aplomb) my hand swiped...
I've built a great wardrobe of the following shoes, all purchased on ebay at between 5-20% of their original retail price. Don't be afraid to buy used, I like getting shoes broken in:
Bally - easily the softest leather of the shoes I've won, traditional styles
Santoni - more modern and more...
I just took up straight razor shaving about a month a go. Kind of happened by chance when I purchased the Wosty below at a flea market in Manhattan. That led me to buying an Omega Silver tip brush, Institute Karite shaving soap, and a Tony Miller Latigo/canvas strop. Last week I snagged the...
Great hat diazawaguy! Do you have any detail photos of it you could post, I've been toying with the idea of getting a semi-colado from PB and want to start seeing the range.
If you paid more than $100 for it and you've never re-blocked a straw hat before, I urge you to send it to Art Fawcett or any of the other professional milliners on the forum.
