Elvis was only brought in as a measurement of success. All I said was that the world likes the Beatles. But apparently that statement is up to debate, according to some people.
Anyone can turn sales figures around to support their argument. I appreciate Cumberworth citing references anyway. My point anyway was that the world at large disagrees (and continues to disagree) with the view here that the Beatles were insignificant.
Arguing otherwise is foolish. It's just...
Again, the catalogue sold from underneath his nose. We're kind of getting away from the topic as well, don't you think? McCartney owns a good chunk of the great American songbook. He doesn't go on tour and sing songs from it. The point being that the Beatle catalogue is valuable. He was...
Those were young people that made that hits collection shoot to number one. It’s been said that the Beatles catalogue is the single most valuable collection there is. Their catalogue was sold from underneath their noses, by their manager. Again, I’m just presenting the facts.
The people that made the Beatles 1’s album shoot to number one, were not listening to oldies radio, trust me.
I wasn’t around in the 50’s, so I can’t really comment on the radio programming of the day, but I do know that there was a Glen Miller revival (probably spurned on by the Glen Miller...
You miss the point. I was not discussing song-writing merits. I was talking about the finished product, forever frozen in time. I would never put the Beatles up against the great American songbook. But their records sell, virtually untouched. I’m not talking about a new record of an old song...
:DHere’s an unpopular opinion for this thread. The Beatles are great, lol. I’ve listened to a lot of music growing up, and I mean a lot. As a kid I picked up on the Beatles from an older siblings. I also picked up on big band swing, classical, and what have you. As I got older I started to...

As far as I know, the only place to get this on cd is the compilation that my friend
Miles Perlich put together over 10 years ago "Latino Blue (Blue Note Jazz Con Sabor Latino)".
Enjoy
One of the sub-genera’s of Latin music that I enjoy is that with a pseudo Asian feel/vibe. Enjoy!

Here's a varient of Lili Marlene called "The D-day Dodgers". It's a bit of sarcastic fun, though I'm sure that the circumstances that produced it were anything but.

Here's a link to its background.

I have always hated musicals. They’re just not me. But some very fine songs came from old musicals (even if I didn’t perhaps like the original incarnation of the song). Today’s musicals are like the rest of today’s music (garbage).
Where Or When is a great old one from a musical. Love that...
I agree with all of this. Today's disposable music for the most part is a reflection our disposable society. I've often joked that they should have an "American Idol" type show for songwriters. Songwriting is at the worst that I've ever seen it (and I am not a snob). It's horrible, awful, stuff.
The coaches are under contractual obligation to wear team sports apparel. The NFL has its fingers in every pie. A few years ago Mike Nolan had to get special permission to wear a suit for a game as head coach.
On a separate note, I hope the Pack go down in flames (sorry). lol

Music criticism is an arbitrary sport. There is no rhyme or reason to it beyond the fact that some people make a living at it. Yes some critics review music that they aren’t really “qualified” to review. On the other hand, you could have a critic that absolutely understands the genera of music...
For many artists, being a “fly in the ointment” is part of their art. Then there are those that do it just for publicity and economic gain. There is a distinct separation between the two, though it might be hard for some to see the difference and at a point, who cares what the difference is? You...
