I recall Ken Calder of Aero a few years ago saying that Cirrus were lovely people but their jackets were absolutely lousy. Admittedly Ken was a bit biased (although he was prepared to give credit where it was due and say so if he thought another manufacturer had made a nice jacket), but Cirrus...
One of many such ditties published in 'Tee Emm', the RAF's 'handy hints' magazine during the war- a humourous view of a serious subject:-
Ten little pilot boys, one shot a fancy line,
Fifth columnists were listening, then there were nine.
Nine little pilot boys, one had a heavy date,
The...
That's a decent resource, Paddy-could that be made a 'sticky' at the head of the forum to direct people to? Would save having to post links every time someone else wants flight jacket info.

I'll be there! Alan, sadly I'm back to work on the 17th, and I have been to Yeovilton quite a few times before. Would be nice to see the Corsair again though. I like the Westland Wyvern too-hell of an aircraft! Have a good time.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it too-last time I was there they had about 25 Spitfires all in the air at once! Formation was a bit ragged but the noise was incredible! Looking forward to seeing a Corsair in the air again too-and to meeting up with some of the boys-well, Paddy, anyway. Anyone...
I have to say that all my Aeros (A-2, B-3 and Highwayman) are spot on to ticket size-I'm I have a 42" chest, my jackets are all 42s and fit perfectly. My advice would be contact Aero with your measurements, they will sort you out.

Jake, did you try contacting Yoshi at MASH like some of the guys at Vintage Leather have been doing for the zips? I understand his English is excellent and his customer service too-if you can get the zips, I'd have thought you could have got the strides too.

Great boots, Shamus-I really like engineer boots, another classic US style-always fancied a pair myself, but I feel I should have a Harley or an Indian to go with them-they'd look silly on a mountain bike!

I think a lot of the reason people think differently about leather, particularly horse, is that it was a lot more plentiful and thus cheaper back in the 30's-there were a lot more horses around. I believe the AAF went for horse for the A-2 because there were a lot of horses knocking around spare...
Working again-as usual!
My wife and daughter just went off to my favourite beach for the afternoon, whilst I head off to scrape up the drunks of Cornwall-ah, occupational hazard. Might make Duxford in September-fingers crossed. All who do go, enjoy-it's a great place and a hell of a day out...
Bob,
Cooper Sportswear were an actual WWII contractor who made A-2s, and post-war they made shearling and leather 'aviator-style' jackets. When the USAF decided to reinstate the A-2 in 1987, Cooper won the contract to produce 53,000 of them, with the first 4000 being delivered in 1988. They're...
I'd love to be able to get there-a bit far for me though! I love Liberty ships, I've dived on three in the waters around Cornwall, including the 'James Egan Layne', almost certainly the most popular wreck dive in the UK. Liberty ships were big ships (over 7000 tons) and are very impressive...
With the current state of the MB17 piggy bank, forget it. But one of these days, deffo. Rather have one of those than pay £500 plus for a moth-eaten A-2 I wouldn't dare wear.
