Interesting to hear that some of the good old beers from the UK are finding their way to the US, like Theakston's Old Peculier (one of my particular favourites) and Fuller's ESB. We are fortunate to have a couple of excellent breweries down in my part of the World, my favourite being Skinner's...
Couldn't resist it any longer, had to order a patch for my Aero A-2, which I have kept unadorned bar the nametag for over a year. Went for this one,
527th Bomb squadron, 8th AAF-B-17 outfit of course. Thought it would look good on a russet A-2-this is the tooled leather version as opposed to...
I think 'Suit Up!' is the best of the books currently available on Flight Jackets, despite not being in English the pics are excellent and you can usually get the gist of what's being said. I've got the other one too, which is nice to have, with some nice pictures, but a bit too much on the...
Yes, I only found out about this a few days ago-I was amazed his death wasn't more widely publicised. I have several of his books (including 'Zemke's Stalag' his account of his time as a POW). I spent years trying to track down a full set of his 'Mighty Eighth' series-the 'War Manual' eluded me...
Yeah, $500 is a lot for a G-1. If the label says M-422a then it's wartime, or if it says Type G-1 and the contract no. is 55J14 or 7823(Aer) then those are late 40's/early 50's jackets and worth a bit more, but there are a lot of L.W. Foster 7823(Aer)'s around, it was a big contract. I paid...
Me I guess! Aero bog standard seal B-3, getting plenty of wear at the moment as it's ideal sheepskin conditions down this way, clear and bright but cold. Also worn with ELC seal B-2 cap. Buzz Rickson B-15B also getting plenty of wear.

OK,let's see...
Virtually anything by Roger A.Freeman, in particular 'The Mighty Eighth' and the associated 'Mighty Eighth' titles-Mighty Eighth War Diary, ME War Manual, ME in colour, Airfields of the Eighth/Ninth Then and Now, he's written loads, probably the No.1 authority on the 8th. Some...
One of my favourites apart from the ones you already mentioned is 'The Way To the Stars', a much underrated British classic, and showing both the RAF and 8thAF. Several rare aircraft to be seen in it too. I also like 'Stalag 17', not strictly aviation but a great POW film and loads of flight...
Hi Shamus,
I thought I would miss the fact that the Speedy isn't an auto, but I don't, in fact now I have it I love the ritual of winding it every day-in fact I look forward to it. After all, if it was good enough for NASA...
IWC's are very nice-quite understated IMHO. If I was after another...
