Let's See Your Watches! The Vintage Watch Thread.

My favorite is my Timex Expedition. It's missing a button and half the bezel has broken off, but it keeps great time. I just keep it in my pocket when I dress up.

    The shoulder belt

Have you considered a magnetic ID holder? It may be a problem if you are using magnetic swipe cards, but if you are using an RF ID card you should be alright. You may also be able to use a Leather Badge/ID holder either on a chain or over your pocket.

The Elephant in the Room - Man Purse

Thanks Feraud! I guess I will wait to get it until I go on holiday. I wanted the bag for a trip to France, so I will just keep my eyes open when I am over there. And thank you to every one else as well. If I cannot find the bag, I now have a very good selection of alternatives.

    Modifying sleave lengths

It depends on if you want the sleeves to look the same. I did that with a Dunn & Co. Harris Tweed coat, but it no longer has the faux flap to make it look like the button is actually doing something. I also had to add some material to the sleeve lining.

    Rick Deckard coat Blade Runner

It is easier to just start from scratch. I don't think there is enough spare fabric on a normal coat to make the changes, and I could not find a single breasted trench with the right sleeves. I used a standard trench to make the base pattern and then modified it to create the Deckard Coat.

The Elephant in the Room - Man Purse

That one has the same general shape, but I am trying to find one with the same details as the one pictured. The leather trim, leather straps go under the flap, rather than over, and unusual shoulder strap attachments. I did manage to find the other close bag I had seen here, the Barbour...

The Elephant in the Room - Man Purse

Shoulder Bag I have been trying to locate this bag for quite some time, and was wondering if anyone here can point me in the right direction. I have seen some very similar ones posted in the past, but I cannot even find those now. Thanks!

Advice on virus protection for my computer.

The message that opened with AVG made it sound like they were dropping the free version, but they are not supporting 7.1 anymore. You can download the free version of 7.5.

New Ladies and Gents Step Forward

My interest lies in the 20s and 30s as well as 50s and 60s. I started off interested in the Space Age and I have been working backwards to Art Deco and Moderne. My collection of vintage fashion is still pretty lacking, but I have a few items. I do have a green wool fedora with a tear drop...

I build and collect replica movie/television props and costumes, as well as some from books. Then there is the ever-growing collection of books of reference material for above hobby.

    Show Us Your Purchases....GUYS !

I just picked this up. Any idea on the age? It's probably just an 80s skinny tie, but I liked the design. There is no liner and the tag reads: 60% ACETATE 40% RAYON RN 1727[Degree Symbol]

    New Old Watch

That is a lovely watch, and it is alway nice when you know the history of a piece. Especially when it is from your family.

I know people look at us

This has been an interesting thread for me, because I went to school with several of them. CharlieH., I thought you saw me in my extended Rick Deckard coat back when I needed a haircut until I saw your location. This sounds remarkably like someone I who I knew during by brief time in the...

    Wrinkle me this

I won't skimp, I have needed an iron for a while now and I don’t plan on getting one until I find one I am happy with. I grew up with a Rowenta Pro iron and I compare all the others to it (I'm looking for an $60+ iron in the <$20 range-I probably won't have an iron for a while). I have been...

    Tell me about Harris Tweed?

I just purchased a Dunn & Co. Harris Tweed sportcoat. The sleeves are too short, but I think I can let them out 1.25," that should make the fit better, but not perfect.

    Wrinkle me this

Pretty much everything I have is wrinkled to some extent. I need to buy an iron, but I am waiting to find one I like (that I can afford). If I want to be mostly wrinkle-free I break out my Arrow 100% Dacron shirt.

I have 18 I carry on a daily basis. Well, 17 and a Key shaped screwdriver, and I do know what they are all for.
