No, I meant the Bogart ad, which expressly features a Resistol "Lancer" model. The "Black Lancer" comment was meant to acknowledge & differentiate the similar model name, which I had found references to when searching for the Bogie hat.
Fellas, the 707 is another Jetliner themed Resistol model. Even if it is not actually *that* light weight, it was almost certainly intended as a Jet age lightweight hat.
I'm still not buying the lightweight felt connection to Melorol, mind you ;-). I think it's a brim treatment. The...
Can't post the photo due to Tapatalk issues, but a 1910 Menswear blurb notes GB was started in 1893 by 4 brothers. By 1910, two had dropped out, one had died, and the company was selling finished clothing to pay its creditors.
I believe it continued to 1951 based on my conversation with the...
Dogman, "GB" is George Brothers, out of Chicago, I think. I have ribbon and other materials bearing their mark. I don't know much about the company yet, except that they were in operation through at least 1951.
It is the "Lancer" ad I referenced above. I looked at the ad a day or two ago - it was not marketed by Resistol as a Melorol, incidentally, so I misremembered.
Anyone have a Lancer? I've never seen one - and I've looked ;-)
(Not "Black Lancer," BTW - those I've seen).
MelOrol is how the mark was used in the ice cream context. I don't see any relation either. Trademarks are very context dependent, and neither the registrant nor the context jibe with use in the context of hats.
I agree with barrowjh that light weight hats appears to be a common denominator...
Love that show - struck the perfect balance of humor & scifi.
That was the plan, but now having second thoughts. Will ultimately depend on how much brim remains after re-block.
Follow-up: My late 50's era "Krushable" is not marked Melorol, but is a finely pounced very lightweight hat akin to the jetliner termed hats mentioned above. Don't think this changes the discussion.
I'm sure it was a rodeo queen hat. I have several cowboy hats in bright colors, and passed on a couple of other orange ones before realizing how hard they are to find. I've been looking for several months, and was delighted to find this clear beaver one at a very good price - $9.99. It does...
I did find that too Alan, but there was no registration for use with hats to be found. I suppose we each have to make up our own minds about this, but I've not seen anything except the fact that the terms Melorol and Self Conforming appear together on the sweatband to suggest that the term has...
