Well, it took a little effort, but I finally found a 1940 Resistol ad touting the "Melorol" innovation in relation to the edge of the hat _brim_ (at least that's how I read it) rather than the sweatband, as has been speculated in this thread and elsewhere in the lounge.
I will add that over the...
The first rule of comedy is that you have to be funny. George Carlin always was. Irreverence may have been his vehicle of choice, but it ran on good old-fashioned funny.
P.S. Frank, your post reminded me of the much-pirated old Gail Gardner poem turned ballad, "Sierry Petes" (aka Sierra Peaks, Tyin Knots in the Devil's Tail, etc.).
My great grandfather was a real cowboy and a singing rodeo cowboy/square dance caller. He used to bounce me on his knee and sing...
Alan & Frank, I second (third?) everything you said. One particular floppy old Nutria Quality Stetson is my favorite by far, but the nutrias are all tops in my book. The durability of the nutria felt is second to none IMHO. There is a reason they were marketed to working Cowboys through the...
It seems highly unlikely to me that this discussion will lead anyone (especially Joao ;-) to change their mind about this.
Like Mr. Wiser, I like to keep my own western hats "western," but in light of the dearth of good high and straight-crowned fedoras with decent felt quality that are...
Just grazing, but when I was a grocery clerk we used to use hairspray to remove marking pens & other ink. Cheap stuff works best, like Rave pressurized cans. It may take a few applications & blotting. I haven't tried this on felt, but it worked wonders on white cotton blend shirts.
Been very busy in trial, but have a long weekend. Hope to spend much needed time with my family & also do some hatting. 1Mach1 & Ideaguy are at the top of the list. Will contact you...
In fairness, Kingrat is a very competent refurbisher himself, from what I have seen. There are lots of unhatted heads in our world - many more than I have time to make hats for at this point in my life.
No worries - really - but I think we should all try to avoid slash & burn censorship by...
PM with contact info bounced :-(
Better cruise around & make those 15 posts.
Despite my recent "Vendor" designation, I'm not really a business, and am not yet sharing my personal contact info publicly here.
Kingrat is right Terry! Your ribbon work is great, and you clearly have the skills to do the rest. It's just the lack of tools that's limiting you at this point. In that regard, have you had a chance yet to use the rounding jack I sent you?
Nathan,
With regard to hatters at least, I believe the Lounge could probably have more advertisers and generate more revenue/"buzz" with a lower price point and a bit more inclusive atmosphere. As a newly designated Vendor who has personally inquired about Sponsorship, I think these things...
I have read at least one of the Thoresen barrel knife articles, and found it very informative. There is an eBay buyers guide also, I think.
I will check your page out as well. Thank you!
I've looked this up. It is my belief the term refers to the roll of the brim. I do not have the old ads at my fingertips, but one of them features Humphrey Bogart in a "Lancer" model I've never been able to find.
