I made two evening gowns for this past weekend's Art Deco Fest aboard the Queen Mary.
The first is in blue velvet from an early 30s pattern which I made last weekend and wore to the Deco Ball:

Since the accent color in your dress is lavender - I bet your local grocery store will have orchid corsages that match it. I always see light pink & lavender ones at the various stores (Jewel, Vons, Albertsons, etc). Plus it's a hardy flower, so it won't wilt in your hair during the day.
As long as the necklace isn't very long, I think it will be ok. With bare shoulders & a somewhat low neckline - you have a lot of skin to show off some jewelry. Instead of a wrap for added color - what about fresh flowers in your hair?
My eyebrows are so fine and light in color that I'm too paranoid they'll be ruined forever if I have them 'done' by someone. Eek! What if they take too much off? A lifetime of drawing them back on? No thanks. I'll stick to tweezing.
Don't shorten! Put down the scissors! I'm sure you could easily find a matching grosgrain or silk ribbon in the lavender or white for a belt.

Menus from cruises from the 30s - 50s pop up on ebay all the time. They're a great resource for what would have been served in the different class dining rooms.
Ditto. I can't use metal hair combs of any sort. My fine, straight hair would always tangle dreadfully. I get the plastic faux-tortoise shell ones now.
I had both editions (and just sold my first one). I happen to like the 2nd edition better - I think she did a more thorough job & I like the range of hairstyles better.
