SO CUTE! I really need to take the time to make something for myself. I hope you don't mind, but I'm saving this picture for reference.

Today I dismantled a dress I never wore and made it into a blouse

Im getting real satisfaction out of taking old unworn projects and making them into something else. Although I have tons of fabric (its a condition ;) ) there is something gratifying about the problem solving it takes to rework fabric from an old item.

buttondetail-2.jpg

I had to do a lot of piecing, especially the sleeves. :eusa_doh:
Ill put the details on NVL soon :)

Made a couple more things.

This black beret. 3 pieces, and no they didint match up! I had to cut away some to make it fit, stupid pattern. Its out of a cheap woolish felt. Its a tester, and I plan to make a few more out of better material.

I think this will be my last reuse project for a while. I really hated that dress.

I used once again my 30s altered dress bodice pattern. Please dont mind my sour face, I had just heard I didint get a freelance gig I was hoping for.

I have been doing these re-use projects as sort of putting off some big sewing projects I want to do for the GtG this October, but now I guess I better get to them

So cute! All the little old ladies in Quebec wore them when I lived there, so there were a plethora of them for 1$ at the thrift store. Me and my friend decided to try and bring the trend back, so glad you're joining in!
The one time I made a hat the pieces were wrong for me as well. The lining was nowhere near big enough.

I made two evening gowns for this past weekend's Art Deco Fest aboard the Queen Mary.

The first is in blue velvet from an early 30s pattern which I made last weekend and wore to the Deco Ball:

And the second is a white with pink polka dot organdy that I wore to the Tea Dance, made from another early 30s pattern in my collection. I call it my sew-it-in-a-day dress since I churned the entire thing out (with french seams) in one day 2 days before leaving for the event:

I made these for the PJ party for the Art Deco weekend. They are themed to go along with the lecture I gave on Sunday.

All the cross stitching is hand done in silk as well.

These are my first real complex project, I had never set in sleeves before, or a collar.

And here is a close up of the cross stitch running down the one side....while it was being worked. The loose white strands you see are the waste canvas.

Its a design from a folio published in Kiev in 1923.

That looks like such a time consuming and hard work but what a beautiful result Miss Neecerie

I don't think we really had a chance to connect - but I kept admiring you!

I had the fabric and the patterns but not the time to make a new dress or two for the QM - the darned Art Deco Socierty was late again (3rd year in a row) giving me the materials for the gatsby program, so no new clothes for me.

At least I can live vicariously through your dresses! Lovely, and on a lovely young lady!

The totally swell PJs!
I am happy I coped the pattern for you! At least you got around to making them (story of my life).

I am glad you copied for me too! Like oh so many things, I had a picture in my head....

But do check your copy before you try to make them. The collar piece wasn't really the collar piece but instead a facing piece....I erm improvised the collar after discovering that.

Now I just need to throw blini and caviar parties for a while...so I can keep wearing them!
