Welcome to the Lounge and I've heard of Capas although I've never have seen one in real life. That looks like a pretty good hat to me. Should protect the sun from beating down on your head this Summer.
Thanks for sharing your photos with us Mr. P. My mom's from England and I've been over a few times, but it's been many, many years ago. It's wonderful that you and your wife were able to make the trip and it looks like you had a great time. :)
Just for the heck of it, here's 3 different Akubras in 3 shades of grey. Top is moonstone Squatter, lower right is glen grey CD, left is carbon Fed IV.
Will do. I was in the shade at the time. Meanwhile, I was feeling pretty (j/k), so here's a shot of me in my Glen Grey CD. The crown is a little bigger than the Squatter, but it gives you plenty to play with. You can lower the crown if you want to or you can have it tall. The brim is a good...
I spent some time tweaking my Tawny Fawn (same as Taupe Fawn) Campdraft last night. I had the brim up Hollywood style, but decided to swoop the brim down in front and I removed the wind trolley. Sometime ago I took out the liner for more comfort. I've been working around the house on some...
How is the sizing compared to the Fed? Did you get the same size as Fed or Squatter and does it fit as well as either? Is the crown round or oval? I'm tempted to get one.
My bash is not a tear drop but, this is what I did to mine. I pushed the front pinch down. I find the pinch is more easily formed using a little water sprayed on. I'm not a fedora bashing expert, but I'm happy with it and it works for me.
No hump on the Fed, but for the CD, I...
I was told the same, but the Fed IV ordered in my size (59) was a tad large. The Campdraft was a little larger. Both the Fed and CD conformed to my head size after a few wears, I never bothered with the tape in the lining.
My Squatter (59) came off of e-bay and I can't account for it's...
I wonder how many readers this magazine had at the time. The magazine began as a manifesto for the New Thought Movement. Probably a little far fetched for mainstream America in it's day. Also, when you get out of New York and Chicago the rules change for the rest of America. [huh]
The first modern fedora appeared in France, onstage in an 1882 play by Victorien Sardou (1831–1908). The play was called Fedora,...

As Fedora, Bernhardt wore a stylish soft felt hat with a crease in the crown. Bernhardt's many fans were charmed and began to wear the new hat, called a...

I'm sorry Dinerman you can't vote against yourself. The Ayes have it, the nomination is made, Dinerman is the Lounge's choice for Wikipedia editor. Let it be...
Scientists are working on an exploding hat as I write...
Seriously though, that's a shame. People need to raise their children to be better citizens not better criminals.
I'm no Indy man myself. The Fed, for me, is my 1930's style fedora without going vintage. I like the moonstone, I think it's a great color. The Squatter came off of ebay. It was my first Akubra. I have a fawn colored Campdraft, it's a light brown or tan. I like the carbon grey Fed and Glen...
