well, it's a 42S and the sleeves are a tad bit short, but it's certainly as compact in body length as I wanted it to be. However, your verdict is all anyone could ask for, Mr. Peacoat.
And I didn't check on the manufacturing date, I just went for the size and badge.
I stated before that I would...
a sweet deal and an amazing product, both in looks and craftsmanship. what more can you hope for! congratulations and i am lokind forward to a review after 1000 miles.
You could get them with thinner soles, but they would still be much more massive looking than those Red Wings. However, I like both, but wouldn't expect my RW's to last as long and have to say the footbed in them is inexistent.
That aside, for that price you won't get comparable White's or Wescos.
Very interesting topic! I would like to add a modern german perspective to it.
Firstly, I would never (ever) wear any german military clothing from the WWII era. Of course I have grand fathers that have participated, but they haven't left anything behind in terms of uniform and I would rather...
basically it's just two buttons instead of one. It's fine, but if I were to order another one, I would settle for their one-button-design. Just another thing to boil down into the most simplistic form, I think.
I really thought I had enough pairs of White's boots, but there is nothing like the smell of Chromexcel in the morning.
Here are some super comfortable Horween Chromexcel Farmer-Rancher 6" with a triple Composition half sole, leather pull strap, matching eyelets and hook closure, block heel...
The Aero cafe racer is a winner every time!
I don't own an LW, but certainly think the ryder is very cool design. However, I do own an Aero Cafe Racer and it's hands down the coolest jacket I have and will probably ever own. Mine has no side but two breast pockets and an elongated throat...
to simply answer your question: no I would not. Just because I think they are too heavy and the style is too steam-punk-ey for me. If that's what your after, then they're definitely better quality than any of the items the local goth store might offer.
tried both, but chose White's Farmer/Ranchers in black chromexel with a block heel instead. Again the footbed made the Red Wings feel "unfinished". pics coming soon...
I admit that the A2's tendency to look less sharp on most people is probably historically correct. It's just that I can't get myself to overlook the problem with their fit for the sake of heritage. Glad to see Gancho here proves it can be done - if you have the "right" physique to match the A2's...
Hey, I only had to wait for two and a half years on the lounge to see an A2 that actually fits! That's the reason why I never got one: you've got to be really slender and choose a very tight fit to look good in them. Congratulations for taking the grand prize!
Thanks Jimmer! Yes, I'd say the red looks just like that in real life. Below is a comparison between brown and red dog, where the red dog was another, already sold pair of White's Farmer/Ranchers.
The heel is the standard heel, I believe they call it "cuban heel". I am not sure you can specify...
Another pair just arrived, a bit early for fall:
Smokejumper regular height, distressed and red dog leather, Vibram 100, single midsole, rolled top, leather lining.
After owning six pairs over the last three years, I've ordered and sold a few and settle with the one's that fit the best...
