Revisited: the watch that started the micro brand wave: meet the Dreadnoughts

I believe Chris Ward was a little later than Eddie Platts, but both are ex-Royal Navy drawing from that experience and deserve their fair share of respect.

Revisited: the watch that started the micro brand wave: meet the Dreadnoughts

You might have never heard about it, but the time factors PRS-2 and its brethren are proof to the claim that really good watches don't only come from major brands. In fact, they started the idea of micro brands. An ex-Royal navy man started it all and this is the story: How One Watch Design...

    Is Aero still in business?

Friends of mine were staying in Peebles, close to Galashiels this past week and I sent them over to Aero. They tried twice to pay a visit on two different days during their official opening hours (last try this morning), but could not find anyone on the premises. Also the last news entry on...

    a recent peacoat

Ugh and by the way, that Peacoat is also still with me. Get's decent attention every spring from the dry cleaners, isn't impressed with anything my boring old life comes up with and is ready for whatever future. Buy those used - with confidence gents.

    New Aero Cafe Racer

7 years later that jacket is still going strong, saw at least 10000 kilometers on the bike (no crashes though). Not a single complaint here, not missing the bi-swing-construction or longer sleeves. I am alternating between the Aero Cafe Racer, a Harro Racing Vest and an ICON 1000 Vigilant, but...

    New Aero Cafe Racer

The collar is the standard fare, just a little longer and with double closure buttons. I don't think it has any major advantages, but the end is hanging down a bit now after a few years of wear and that is what I wanted to achieve.

    New Aero Cafe Racer

It's a Size 42 and I am 5'11'' and a bit. Will check out the back length for you, when I am home. Do you measure with or without the collar?

    Buying Used from Aero

Don't remember what I paid for this one, but I don't think it was more than 350 Euros. And that included it being delivered in a cardboard box that was more solid than most US houses I have seen.

    New Aero Cafe Racer

funny! you are right, somebody stole my picture... however, mine is still with me and going strong. It's the leather jacket I wear the most and it's got thousands of kilometers on the bike in the mean time.

    Buying Used from Aero

I thought a little update might not hurt: seven years later the jacket is still going strong. The leather is now super supple everywhere and aged beautifully (i think). The sleeves are shiny from use on their lower sides. No defects have occurred anywhere neither in materials nor craftsmanship...

    Wesco Boot Thread.

Burlap Rough-out Wesco Engineer with double shift patches, three straps. when new: after some wear: I've also got some 16" black engineer boots with a Vibram 100 sole I wear for riding and prefer to modern day alternatives (like my Daytona GTX boots)

    Barbour Longshorman Snock

I still have mine, which I bought more than 20 years ago. I did a fair bit of winter sports in it before the Gore Tex revolution kicked in. It was heavy, it froze so stiff I needed help to take it off, but I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Recently acquired a Burton x Filson collab...

My new AL-8 ( grainey steerhide)

Gents, I accidentally used an expression from my native tongue here. No need to freak out about it. Plumbline's jacket looks great to me, while tight jackets on old men remain rather saddening sights for my sore eyes. And look at this poor guy with the bulging leather between his shoulders and...

My new AL-8 ( grainey steerhide)

Great jacket Plumbline! I think the fit is looking good. A tight fit is better suited for youngsters and dress men.
