    Nothing but Seamed Stockings

CassD, look for Cervin Tentation FF's. They have a much shorter pyramid heel compared to other brands. Hope this helps :)

Im altering this garment your input is welcome...

Erm, I kind of intended my thread to be about projects starting more or less from scratch, the ones that still only exist in your mind. Could we include that in this thread as well? Sorry, I don't mean to be nitpicky :o

    Setting Pattern Central

Sarah Louise - for me it helps to kind of coil the curled front section with the side section into a large ringlet (well, no, not really a ringlet, but I don't know else to describe it) so that the two sections interlock (I think that's how Deanna wears it in the picture you posted. At least it...

Im altering this garment your input is welcome...

Thanks for all your input! I think I'll go for a skirt in one piece with a black waistband, like goldwyn girl suggests ... and maybe make a bodice top in solid black from a dress pattern but without attaching it to the skirt, so I won't have to wash the entire dress all the time, but still get...

Im altering this garment your input is welcome...

I need some ideas and advice on this fabulous crazy Egyptian themed cotton I've got my hands on. I'm almost afraid of putting my scissors to it! Do you have any ideas for what to make out of it? There's 3 ¬? yards which is plenty for a full skirt, but if anyone can come up with something...

    Perm rods?

Thanks for the advice! I did suspect the tiny yellow ones would create an afro, so thanks for confirming that :) The largest I have found are 17 mm (= 0.66 inches), so I suppose they would work. They are black, by the way. I'm not sure if there's a standard colour code for perm rods ..?

Endpaper options and pincurl pin questions

I get better results with bobby pins than with pincurl clips, atleast for flat pincurls. So don't be afraid of committing pincurl sacrilege, just do what works best for you :)

    Thoughts on cake mascara

I've been eyeing the Longcils Boncza one since I hate the stiff feeling of regular tube mascara and often skip mascara altogether for that same reason. I'll give you a review if and when I decide to get it :)

As if we didn't chat about pin curls enough. . .

You mean to make the hair water repellant? It must have been a nightmare to get all that grease out afterwards. It makes me think of those Busby Berkeley-style synchronized swimmers who set their hair with gelatine! lol

    Perm rods?

I can only find perm rods that look like this: The ones in Lolita Haze's pics seem to have the same circumference throughout the rod, like a cylinder, not going inwards in the middle like the ones above. Would that make any difference? What kind of perming rods do you UK girls use? Thanks! :)

    Show us your vintage patterns!

Great patterns, Lotus! I love the utility look with the practical shoes and the knee socks, I've never seen a pattern drawing like that before.

As if we didn't chat about pin curls enough. . .

Put on a shower cap in the shower and ignore people's funny looks? I sometimes go to the public swimming pool (I want to go once a week but rarely get around to it ...) and I really can't think of any way to save my hairdo. Pincurls under a swimming cap get wet anyway. I wonder what Esther...

    Your favorite body lotions?

I use peanut oil mixed with a few drops of jasmine oil. Regular lotions are never moisturising enough for me. Doesn't lanolin smell of sheep? I'm not sure I would want that on my body before bedtime :p It's supposed to be very good though, as it's very similar to the sebum of human bodies or...

    Beauty Bargains

Jitterbugdoll recommends patting your skin with icy cold water on a cotton ball after powdering, have you tried this trick? It sets the powder and takes the flour-y look away.

    Show us your hair do's....

I haven't heard of using socks, but I'm sure I've seen a graphic somewhere online that shows how to get a pageboy by rolling the ends under a huge lump of cotton wool and letting it dry that way. I'll see if I can locate it! :)

    Show us your hair do's....

Pink Dahlia, the blonde streaks look great! Have you tried rolling up the rolls closer to the scalp and place them pointing kind of more towards the back? I think you'd get a better result that way. You might need to use larger strands of hair to show off the two-tone effect :) It feels a...

    Show us your vintage patterns!

I agree. My sewing skill level is intermediate and this pattern is something I would attempt to have a go at. For an absolute beginner I would recommend a pattern without set-in sleeves, but also something without a collar or lapel. Preferably one where you can finish the openings with...

    Mineral Make-UP

Aorta, I have just received a box of T. LeClerc powder (in rose th?©, an apricot-y shade) but haven't tried it yet. Do you think it lives up to its reputation? I was just drawn to it because of the vintage factor :)
