This is sad news, if not unexpected. Rest in peace, Jim "Twitch" Tittle

    Vintage Phones

Yep, probably a hotel set, but remember, not every area had dial service. I read somewhere that Washington DC didn't get dial service until around 1949. "Number please?"

"Mad Men" on AMC (US) - (Spoilers Within)

I'll be waiting for Lane to get drunk and belt out "MacArthur Park".

"Mad Men" on AMC (US) - (Spoilers Within)

It was unsettling to see Don lose his "mojo", I hope the way the episode ended meant he is getting it back.

The nicest comment I ever heard

At the Cicada Club last night, a fellow came up and said I reminded him of Don Wilson, Jack Benny's announcer "Oh Don!" That was pretty cool. :)

    To the bald

I remember the first time I got peeling sunburn on the top of my head. I think I was about 27 or 28.

    Vintage Phones

I have one E1 handset on a 1937 302, and it has an adapter to use a 302 style transmitter instead of the "bullet" type. The "Bulldog" transmitters on later candlestick phones also used the 302 type transmitter. The E and F handsets were deliberately designed not to sit on one's shoulder...

I absolutely concur, those over-restored old phones just look like shiny toys. I love my authentic looking 302s.

I figured Mr. Vim meant the '61. :)

favorite cars of the golden era

Yep, I love the '61 Continental. If Lincoln's next generation Town Car had "suicide" rear doors and a 4-door convertible version, I think it'd be a way to bring some excitement back to that brand.

The Western Electric date codes give the quarter of the year the part was made, i.e. II-38 means 2nd quarter of 1938. The transmitter and receiver in the handset will each be date coded, but as Lizzie says they may have been replaced over the years too.

    Magnoli Clothiers

I've had a Magnoli "Barnett College" suit for four years now, and I have most assuredly not babied it at all and it's held up great. The fit is pretty good, considering I took all the measurements myself. Someday I'll have a tailor tweak it, but there's no rush. When I get a little ahead...

"Mad Men" on AMC (US) - (Spoilers Within)

Did you hear the actor almost lose it when he said the line "He'll never golf again!"?

    They've gone too far.

I also think age has something to do with shaving. I seem to have far fewer problems with razor burn and skin irritation since I passed the age of 40. Could be my skills are improving, or my skin is getting tougher.

    The School of Hard Knox

I love that soft shape-able felt, I can really have fun with that hat. I took my inspiration from Alan Hale Sr.

    The School of Hard Knox

Three years after I posted this thread, here's my Knox in action at the recent Hooverville Dust Bowl BBQ. I love how it takes any bash I try on it:
