The Freewheeler's take is nice too.
You and JL did a great job. I really like the double snap detail on the front bottom, which someone already mentioned. Gives it some extra pop in front and balances it out visually with the strong lapels. And the back is just classic.
Out of curiosity, are the people with the negative comments turned off by the lapels? I think they're incredible. People not familiar with the earliest jacket designs might find them peculiar or unusual.
It's such a neat design and I'm surprised there are not at least a few more offerings for...
That is one amazing jacket. Totally stunning. I live a few blocks form the JL shop and I'm constantly shocked by the cool jackets being born there. This ranks among the best I've seen, and I've seen a bunch.
Those home-made maiden voyage boots look fantastic.
I would seriously be proud to wear boots that I myself built from scratch.
"Nice boots! Where'd you get them?'
"I made them."
Boom.

Great jacket! I think that is the standard naked cowhide. I've owned several and it tends to look just like that (nice and grainy with an almost pebble texture) once broken in.
I'm not sure $300 is a giant score for that jacket, to be honest. Great jacket, lots of history, and the price is certainly fair, but I've seen them go for that price or less on a fairly regular basis on eBay.
RRL did / does a lot of stuff like that. They also find decent used western leather belts, which can be found almost anywhere for $5-$20 if you know where to look, and hang a RRL tag on them. These then appear in their retail space for $120 - $135. Good on them, but it makes me chuckle.

The hide on that looks so tasty.
You really should keep it, at least a little while. It's such a nice jacket you'll be able to turn it around easy any time you wish. Unless you really need the cash like right now, I'd sit on this a while. I'm not rolling in dough myself but $850 is just $850...
"....I'm sure there are hundreds of places in China could make outstanding engineer boots, but you'd have to be prepared to pay close to Western money for them."
To me this is the whole point. Regardless of the country of origin, if you have someone offering to make a pair of custom engineer...
