Searching for someone to reblock my hat.

That turned out great. I recently bought an old Stetson OR cheap that has a lot of sweat stains but the felt is still in good shape. I'm experimenting with it right now to see if I can clean it up and reshape it. If it doesn't work out then it is no big deal. I think it is fun too.

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Ed, I already have several old ones that look practically brand new. None are true Stratoliners but the only difference is the "Stratoliner" name is not on the sweatband. I really love those old hats. The felt is incredible and the thin wide sweatbands are great. With the wide sweatbands and...

Searching for someone to reblock my hat.

If it were me I would go ahead and shape it while it is still wet. Others may disagree though.

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Ed, You are definitely right about just the mention of "Stratoliner" can really raise the price. The moth holes are what bothered me. On old hats I don't mind anything else like rub marks, stains, worn sweatband but any moth holes are just deal killers for me. Mike

Wise Hatter, I was watching that one. I'm a little surprised it went that high but I like the color.

Searching for someone to reblock my hat.

Soaking it in water is a good suggestion. Normally I use distilled water but the other day I had an old Open Road with a lot of sweat stains so I wasn't worried about damaging it. I ran warm water from the tub spigot over the entire hat and got it soaking wet. I then reshaped it and wore it...

The nicest comment I ever heard

I had an unusual incident the other day that I'll share. It was late one Friday afternoon and I needed a haircut. Since I don't have much hair left I don't really care who cuts it so I just stopped in one of those national haircut chains. I was wearing an old Open Road with a fedora bash. I was...

Searching for someone to reblock my hat.

How tall was the crown to begin with when it was open crown? I usually need at least a 5 1/2" open crown to get a crease I like. I also prefer to use distilled water instead of steam to crease a felt hat. I get the felt wet with the water, crease it and then usually let it dry on my head. For...

What is your favorite aircraft of all time?

My Dad who was in the Army Air Corp in WWII said that at one time (probably late 50's) the military sold off surplus P51's that were still in the crate for around $1,500.00. He always said he was glad he didn't have the money then to buy one because he probably would have killed himself in it. I...

Since I haven't received any trade offers yet I would also consider selling the hat. Feel free to make me an offer. If nobody has any interest in it I will probably list it on EBay. If you like Homburgs you will be very pleased with this one. Thanks.

    9mm or 45cal

I did some hunting on the Internet and that is what I found too. I also found that Alvin York was still alive and was very specific about who should play him and his wife. You would think he would have been opposed to having the actor playing him use a German pistol!

    9mm or 45cal

"But, to bring this thread back around to the topic of "9mm or .45 cal": Why did Gary Cooper carry a Luger in the movie "Sgt. York"? " Now I have to find the movie and watch it! I never knew that.

    The Resistol Roundup

Thanks KC. I was thinking mine was maybe 70's just because the size tag doesn't look like something you would expect in the 50's or 60's.

FT: Canadian Stetson Homburg Black 7 1/4 Extra Long Oval 1950's Like New

I recently bought the hat below hoping it would fit me since it is an Extra Long Oval but unfortunately it won't. The hat is beautiful and my pictures don't do it justice. It is a deep dark black and appears to have never been worn. The leather sweat band is nice and supple. The felt crown is...
