I'm thinking that what you bumped in to (both Doublegun and Goose) is a combination of wanting to sell something... anything... and too little knowledge of their own stock. I saw a lot of this when a briefly dabbled in car sales, and I even had a boss who instructed me to STOP learning about...
I think the main ribbon might have been a blend, but the bow material was probably 100% poly. It's very shiny.
The only hat ribbons I have ever pulled off were from straws, and they have all been completely around the crown, no gap, ends stitched together with the bow to hide the stitches...
I did tack the wings, but only the inner loops. I haven't decided if I'm going to tack the outer loops, too, or steam them and flatten them, or what. That's just me not making up my mind. lol
As for the smaller keeper, I agree. But if I do it on this particular hat, the ribbon gap and...
Say what you will, the DP Fur Felt has it's place in the hat world. And it's not as bad as many people claim. So, why sell?
I got this hat second hand from somebody who wore it once as a Halloween costume. I had a specific purpose in mind, but it didn't work out for me. The hat is almost...
Torpedo, a threat? Only in a submarine. ;)
Not a lot of guys can pull of a derby, but it really works for you. Great job matching up the tie and feather.
I have often wondered if I would be able to get a ribbon onto a hat with any success, especially with my poor attention span and impatience. Not to mention, I never wanted to ruin a hat in the attempt.
Well, I finally took the nose-dive with a Henchel straw hat that I never wear because I...
Nothing against the Chatham, and it "discount" cousin the Downs (same basic hat), but I don't like the current Whippet. Which is odd for me because I prefer bound edges. But like the Chatham better.
If I want a modern Whippet clone, I'll buy a Nostalgia and have it bound. [huh]
Well done. I hope I have the guts to do the same if the day ever comes. Even if he had no intention of stealing it, he learned a lesson in manners.
And you can believe that guy's friends won't let him live it down for a while. "That ol' man had Billy p**in' in his pants, bro!" lol
I find that a 2 1/2" brim is a width that most people look at least ok in. If in doubt, go with that.
As for the Indy comments; it probably would take a pink derby to avoid it! People are, for the most part, stupid. Just go with what you like, and ignore the fools.
You can trust Oak's felt for rain. It's pretty much the best of the so-called "dress felts," plus a little extra treatment. Oak just likes being painfully up front about what he's selling. Technically it's not a rain hat.
The other thing is, even if rain causes shrinking or tapering over...
I agree, it looks more tapered. This could be because of what Oak just said, or that they stretched it without reblocking. Either way, I would complain to Lock & Co. as a first step.
As for the looks of the hat, I don't care for it as is. Maybe you can sell it off at a fair price.
Sorry about not posting the size. I've had a lot on my mind lately. :o I just got in and saw my box filled with size questions! :eusa_doh:
It fits me perfectly, no wiggle-room, and I have a 23 1/2" boulder, uh, head. For further assurances, factory hats of size 7 3/8 are usually too...
:( The thought of selling an Art Fawcett breaks my heart, but I have to be a practical man about this. I love the hat, but it just doesn't seem to be "me." It's been worn about three times in as many years. So, here it is, in photos that barely reveal it's beauty...
As the third pic...
